freak off Davey, honestly, why protect the kid here, let him learn, .500 is nowhere near as important as seeing what these kids can do in a jam

So, you advocate putting personal statistics ahead of managing the team for the win?

Personal stats? He had a lead, why pull him? He was winning the game, let him get out of it instead of burning through the crappen.

.500 isn't possible this season. It's either a winning season, or a losing one. I'd be playing for a winning season. Milone has plenty of time next year.

Stamen needs to learn, too.

didn't say he doesn't, i just don't see why we take the kid out when they have a few baserunners. starters need to learn how to get out of jams at this level.

Having watched Milone and Stammen, I'd pick Stammen.

we'll agree to disagree, i certainly don't have a problem with Stammen.

Can he be a long reliever for us, do you think he is better in the role than Gorzo?

I think Stammen might be a starter. He has more stuff than Milone. Nice breaking ball. Another K.

But wow, what a dead-sounding ballpark Joe Robbie Stadium is.

Personal stats? He had a lead, why pull him? He was winning the game, let him get out of it instead of burning through the crappen.

Because he was in trouble.  Screw trying to get him a win.  I want the Nats to win, and it was clear he was losing it.  And except for the wild pitch Stammen got the job done.  Clearly the move was the right one.

Managing a game to such arbitrary statistical conventions such as what qualifies as a "win" or a "save" is insane.  Manage the game to win, or to win the most games over the course of the season, not to pump up individual players' stats.
