WTF?  Awful decision.  He might as well be a bullpen pitcher if this is how its going to go.

Pitch count limit. He's at 57 now

The freak is this. I'm usually pretty sympathetic to pulling pitchers early, but this is freaking bullcrap.

He didn't have a pitch count limit.

And if he did... you can't keep pulling him around 50 pitches, he'll never build up endurance.

How do you know this? I would suspect they were going to keep him under 75 since he was on 60 last game.

Might as well have just left Stras in

Now watch the bullpen blow it.

57 is way less than 75.  And considering most of their hits were on bloopers, I wouldn't be surprised to see him go another inning and still be under 70.

How do you know this?

Johnson said so pre-game.

He made it 60

It probably had something to do with his drop in velocity and the conversation he had previously.

No reason to risk it with Strasburg. Gives us a chance to look at other arms in the bullpen. Strasburg can build up endurance next season.

Of course, he knows why and he hates it.   I like that.

FP is spot on with the rulebook. Its like if a reliever pitches 3 straight innings to end the game, in a non save situation, he gets credited with a save. Example...Steven Shell against the Astro's in a 10-0 win in 2008.

The drop in velocity thing would make more sense if he hadn't then regained the velocity in the third inning.. but eh.  I doubt very much that Davey had anything to do with this decision.

Once again, FP is so full of crap.  http://www.answerbag.com/q_view/7022

The rules for determining winning pitchers:

*Credit the starting pitcher with a game won only if he has pitched at least five complete innings and his team not only is in the lead when he is replaced but remains in the lead the remainder of the game.

*The "must pitch five complete innings" rule in respect to the starting pitcher shall be in effect for all games of six or more innings. In a five inning game, credit the starting pitcher with a game won if he has pitched at least four complete innings and his team not only is in the lead when he is replaced but remains in the lead the remainder of the game.

Rule 10.17 is pretty clear. Strasburg would have had to go five innings. FP is wrong.
