Well the Nats do have a SP surplus, so it wouldn't be a bad idea to trade him for a line-up piece.

Meyer is atleast two years away from the Majors and has the highest cieling of any Nats pitcher in the minors besides Purke. Doubt we trade him I can see guys like Solis(when healthy), Rosenbaum and possibly Ray getting traded away for pieces in the line up.

because other teams prefer trading for guys with lower ceilings

Meyer is one of them. Unless we're getting a player like Gio Gonzalez(i.e. All-Star, young, projected above average starter for years to come, aka players that most teams don't trade) in return I don't see him trading one of his favorites.

Trading away guys like Meyers would ensure boom/bust cycles, I'd rather hold onto tipping prospects and back fill with free agents

Exactly the other time Rizzo was rumored to want to trade one of his favorites was for Grienke(who fits the same profile) but for guys like Denard Span(non all-star but quality starter) he wouldn't give up Storen. With the amount of star power(Zimmerman, Zimmermann, Gonzalez, Werth, Harper, Strasburg, possibly Rendon) we're going to be trading for more guys like Denard Span to fill in around our Super Stars than giving up the farm for the Grienke's of the world because now we have our own super stars to build around.

Yup, and our farm system yielded Gio Gonzalez.

Leave the farm system alone. It's already sort of barren at the top. It needs at least another year to really be up to solid standards again. All the top talent has graduated or went to Oakland.

For those tl;dr, Meyer profiles anywhere from a mid-rotation starter to a closer. Depends on if he can clean up his mechanics.

Meyer pitched last night in another no decision:
5.0 IP 7 H 4 ER 3 BB 6 Ks 1 HR
He has a 4.70 ERA and a 1.41 WHIP for the year.

On a brighter note, Goodwin is back in the lineup. I'm thinking it might be worth a road trip to see Meyer, Goodwin and Skole.
