Anyone have a pic of his cleats?  Apparently he has "i'ma" stitched into the back of the left, and "beast" in the right.

I'm curious how Morse's HR rate compares to other qualifiers, but I see no easy way to find out.

I could download the raw data and do it in Excel, but I'm not in the mood... anyone know a site with that stat?

He's 15th best in the NL at 18.4 coming into today. That'll obviously improve after two bombs today.

It looks like Morse hasn't been affected by the move to LF.

That's good news going into 2012 - it seems pretty likely that LaRoche will be taking up 1B to start the season.

Does Marrero make the team next year?  I kind of doubt it unless Davey is the manager and he wants him as the RH bat off the bench.  Maybe they bring up Marrero after they trade LaRoche if Harper is not ready at that point?

I'm sure welch would be able to tell us this too, but Mark Zuckerman reported it first:

In 77 previous seasons of D.C. baseball, only 1 player ever hit .300 with 30+ homers (Roy Sievers, '57). Michael Morse on verge of doing it.

The last time a D.C. baseball club finished in 3rd place or better? 1945. #Nats #Senators

If he only gets 8 more ABs, one hit would do it.  If he got 10 more, he'd need 2.  Don't feel like calculating other amounts, walks, etc.

Basically if he can get on base 3 more times he should be golden.

Did he hit exactly .300, I wonder?

He's now the first ever National to be the team's Triple Crown winner.

Gotta love Morse!  I call him Mike or Mikey!  He said his Mom calls him Michael when he's in trouble.  Guess most Moms call their kids by their formal names when they do something bad!

As to whether Michael Morse is D.C.'s best athlete now? The answer is no for anyone who takes last day of season off to preserve .302 avg.

First of all, who said Morse isn't playing today?

Secondly, he could go 0-for-4 today and still have a 0.3003802281368821 average, so Mike Wise is not only an idiot, but an idiot who can't compute quotients.

I was wondering where Morse's season ranked in terms of best ever by a Nat.

Soriano is still way out in front, RZ is probably 2nd.

Soriano-2006:  .277 / .351 / .560  46 HR, 119 R, 95 RBI, 47 SBs

Zimm-2009:  .292 / .364 / .525 / 33 HR, 110 R, 106 RBI, 2 SB

Morse-2011: .303 / .360 / .550  31 HR, 73 R, 95 RBI, 2 SB

What is your criteria for all-time best season by a Nat? HR + R + RBI? OPS? High AVG? All around good year?

i'm thinking all around - offensively anyway.   Beast leads the pack in average, but he trails Soriano in almost every other category, and add Soriano's 47 steals to the mix and there's no comparison.

Zimm's season might be the most impressive giving the utter crap that surrounded him (except Dunn).

The 2009 Nats were so bad. Zimm, Dunn and Hammer... and a bunch of scrubs. Sooo bad.

Yeah, awful. Hurts to think about. I remember when Riggleman took over and we felt like we were the 1990's Atlanta Braves with our improved pitching and defense and when looking back it continued to be God awful into the second half of the season. The first half was simply that bad.

Manny Acta had that team on pace to be historically bad until Riggs made them place halfway competitive ball later. Then again, our improved play was assisted big time by Good Nyjer.

Only because he switched leagues. Took the NL a season or two to realize if you thrown him nothing but breaking balls, he'll swing at em like crazy.

I disagree.  Dispite the same rbi, the impact was not the same.  Morse has more impact this year and it's probably due to Soriano's muleheadedness of having to lead off.
