Hey guys, I just found a 100-dollar bill, but I decided to take it and spend it all on Lotto tickets.

I think this is a fantastic decision.

:lmao: It's amazing how some people on this board lack perspective on PROSPECTS.

How many PROSPECTS end up being good Major Leaguers?  It's a crapshoot even with top 50 (in all of MLB) prospects, and once you get below that, you're really trying to get lucky.

You're the one who slurping Bourn's jock.  Why not get some PERSPECTIVE on his career?  Look at it.  He's nothing special.

I'm not stoked by having Ankiel as our CF either, but Bourn isn't the answer for this particular roster.

A leadoff hitter that gets on base?

Isn't that EXACTLY what the Nats have been looking for?

And yet, you think Storen for Span was a good choice.  :lmao:

Long term, you really think MICHAEL BOURN is a legitimate CF?

He was decent in Houston.  Let's see how he does in Atlanta because he wasn't really all that special in Philly.

Yeah, Storen is totally, 100% reliable whereas Span is just a "prospect."

Idiot.

Let's see how he does in Atlanta because he wasn't really all that special in Philly.

He had 127 AB's in his Philly career. What exactly are you going to learn in that amount of time?

And wouldn't you think over 2,000 AB's with the Astros would be slightly more indicative of his talent level?

He has a career OPS+ of 89 and that includes his unbelievably over his head 2011 start.  More than 2:1 K:BB.

What's so special?

No need for name calling.  Deadline has passed. Trade wasn't made. It's done. Time to move on

You don't judge leadoff hitters with OPS.

OBP + SB (total) + SB/CS

Those numbers look solid to me.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it pretty rare for a non-contending team to ADD a piece like Upton or Span at the deadline?  There's no need to over spend at the deadline when you can probably get something done at a more reasonable rate without the stress of the deadline during the offseason.

One thing that really sucks is that we're going to go through this again all offseason. I think a deal is more likely then, but it's going to be annoying.

How about the K:BB?  How about 2B's and 3B's?  How about the fact that his career OBP is .338 which is only .030 higher than Bernadina?

I may not have gone to Cornell, but I can find an idiot in a crowd.  :lmao:

Meh, it's way less stressful in the off season. I think people get trigger happy at the deadline and make a lot of moves they later regret.

This seems to be what Rizzo was thinking. He'll look and se what he can do at the deadline, but if nothing makes sense long-term, pass. Span and Upton will be available in the offseason and frankly, I'll be more open to a Storen-Span deal once Span proves he's fully recovered from the concussion.

He's had a good half.  Other than that, he's not that great.

Which is why you need as many good ones as possible.

I already totally destroyed this thinking a few years ago.  There's a limited number of good, young prospects out there, so if you're trying to stockpile enough to fill up a good ML roster some day, you're playing a loser's game.

If a team offers you a solid MLB player for four prospects, each with a 1/5 chance of becoming just as good as that MLB player, you should take that MLB player, even if there's some very small chance of one of them becoming really good.

But it would have been a wild pitch - maybe better for the Nats
