to be fair, we have no idea what actually went on between Rizzo and the Astros/Twins/Rays.

Maybe the Twins wanted Storen, Bernadina and Lombo for Span and a scrub?
Maybe the Astros didn't like our prospects vs. the Braves' offer?
Maybe the Rays didn't want a scrub SS Desmond for Upton?

Who can the Nats get through waivers?

Players. Sorry, you are making it to easy :D

Werth, Livan, Ankiel, Pudge are my guesses.

So Rizzo didn't pull the trigger on what some considered a bad trade. Does that vindicate Rizzo in their eyes?
No!

Keeping Storen is good but shouldn't have prevented us from making legit moves for MLB players

I call bullcrap on the Astros thing.  Based on what Brian said the other night, we could have easily offered a better deal.

If he didn't have freaking tunnel vision, he could have looked to the Astros and gotten Bourn for peanuts

This is because he is a SUCKASS GM

He always sets his sights on one player and misses opportunities at obtaining someone comparable at a better price :bang:

Or . . .

He realized the team probably wasn't going to contend anyway, so why give up pieces who could contribute to your future just to pick up a medicore CF to appease your delirious fanbase?

You know Rizzo has to negotiate trades and can't just set terms and do it, right?

And God forbid, what if Storen goes Cordero on the Nats next year?

Will everyone be happy then?

Maybe, maybe not. Maybe the Astros don't like our prospects? Ed Wade is a freaking moron. who knows.

Plus, Schafer is an MLB OF who is young, while we have...Bernadina to offer.

Like who for who?

If we're going to overrate Storen like that, then, well, we won't have many trading partners.

But, like UMD says above, we don't know that Rizzo was overrating Storen, we don't know what other teams wanted.

What if he gets better?  This is a future's game, it's all about risk and speculation.

Average CF >>>>> Bad CF
Good CL >>> Average CL

Deal should have been made... but there's no point talking about it any more. It didn't happen.

I don't even want to consider that. But the same could be said the other way around. The player in question coming to the Nats could also have something happen to him.

Then why keep bringing it up?

Considering the Nats balked on compensation, I'm sure they'll feel about the same as they always have.

Some don't enjoy year in and year out ending the season in the basement of the NL East.

:lmao: It's amazing how some people on this board lack perspective on PROSPECTS.

How many PROSPECTS end up being good Major Leaguers?  It's a crapshoot even with top 50 (in all of MLB) prospects, and once you get below that, you're really trying to get lucky.

I'm disappointed that our CF will continue to be a black hole of production but whatever.

Um, pretty sure Drew Storen is a Major League closer
