I was thinking a lineup of this...

CF - Span
2B - Lombardozzi
3B - Zimmerman
1B - Morse
SS - Espinosa
RF - Werth
LF - Nix/Hairston
C - Ramos

Would be pretty damn impressive.

as much as i hate them, you have to give credit to teams like the phillies and red sox who are willing to add payroll before the deadline.

i wish we would do that one day ... oh who am i kidding :lmao:

Rizzo lied about Maya. He said they scouted him at 94 MPH. He was never close to that.

Maybe they use the metric system in Cuba?

Eventually they will. They took a risk on Werth, but frankly it was just a bad job scouting the guy. Surprising since he was in the division and played the Nats so often.

Washington needs to go after arms, it takes a ton of pressure off the offense. That is where they should look to spend their money, IMO.

Hearing mixed opinions on whether #Nats will move Marquis.

Why the hell wouldn't they move Marquis? :?

Philadelphia is most likely to get Giambi, writes Renck, which makes sense -- he could be the Phillies' next Matt Stairs.

Seriously. I hope we don't sign him. Where does Wang go if we don't trade him? Six-man rotation? Gorzelanny to the pen? Too many issues. Just move him.

If Wang and Marquis are here next year in the rotation we're in trouble.

reading the article i look it as the cards are asking for a lot of rasmus, not rays for upton.  i could be wrong though.

I think the plan is to trade Marquis and fill his spot with CMW.  I've read articles before about loyal Wang feels to the Nationals for giving him another chance, and if he does well, he'll almost certainly re-sign here next year if we still want him.  Although with Strasburg coming back and Peacock possibly coming up, we might not need him anyway.

Werth raked last year. What was there to scout that they missed?

I don't know what good trading Marquis does. I can't imagine the Nats getting much of anything for him, but since no one has been traded anywhere the market isn't really set.

The Cards would increase pursuit of Upton if they could use Colby Rasmus to add pitching.

An AL official said, "They are denying publicly they will trade him, but they are definitely shopping him. They are asking for a ton."

Tampa Bay and Boston are interested in Rasmus, among others.

Raked? You have to look where a guy played. He was protected in that lineup last year. He had 147 KOs last year and the Phillies were looking to get rid of him before he got hot.

He had a good year, but not $120+ Million kind of good year.

And I'd take Giambi - as i'm assuming the lol @ Matt Stairs has to do with what he has done with the Nats.

Cards now appear to be shopping Rasmus widely. Nationals, who need CF and have pitching, had scout in STL last night. #tradedeadline

He was the best hitter on the best team in the NL. I would define that as raking.

Rasmus had a good game last night too. 1/3 with a HR, 3 RBIs, 2 Runs, and a walk.

Yes, he raked. I believe he was top 10 in OPS+ last year. He wasn't as protected as you might think last year, he carried that lineup while everyone else was on the DL.

I didn't say anything about his contract. I asked what scouts should have noticed last year that would tell of his 2011 woes.

He certainly did not carry the team.

His high KO ratio - he simply doesnt have the power numbers to justify the number of K's he has. His doubles were up last year, but RBIs, HR's were both down from the previous year.

The first half of the season he was not very good - he is a good hitter on a good team, try and make him a focal point player and he is not going to carry a lineup offensively. Nothing in his career (if you watched him play on a daily basis) should have made any scout think he could.
