The Yunesky Maya signing is more bad than the Wilson Ramos trade is good.  It doesn't make him even.  He's still on the negative side.

That's like saying shots on goal are bad, even though some of them find the net, and enough to win possibly.

Maya was a lark, a chance taken, that isn't going to pay off.  Ramos looks like a winner.  If a GM could bat .500 on deals like Maya and Ramos he does that in a heartbeat.  Maya is kicked to the curb, on to the next one, no point in dwelling on the failure.

Rizzo lied about Maya. He said they scouted him at 94 MPH. He was never close to that.

It must be allowed that Rizzo was misinformed, unless anyone has evidence to the contrary.

And we should feel better about this because...?

Can't you all embrace some complexity? I think it's pretty hard to argue right now that Rizzo is an awful OR amazing GM. Not all moves are of the same significance. You have to have a lot of low-hanging fruit combined with bigger moves. Rizzo's biggest move, Werth, is still only 1/14th of the way into the deal.

There was a reason why the Nats ended up with Maya and not the Yankees or some well-ran franchise. Everyone else saw Maya for the bum that he was except Rizzo and the Nats who paraded him as a ML-ready mid-rotation starter.

Desmond and Peacock sounds like a lot. Isn't Peacock ticketed for the bigs soon?

LOL - The Yankees spent $46M on Kei Igawa.

Not to belabor a contentious but important point but it's entirely possible he was scouted at that but had something come up that kept him from being sharp.

The bold should help you out.

Yes, but we're going to have to pay a price for someone like Span. I'd prefer to give up someone else, but we may have to part ways with Peacock to get who we want.

who cares? They can afford to make mistakes like that when you sign guys like C.C. Sabathia and Mark Teixeira (and many others) and your team kicks ass. The Yankees have stashed Igawa in the Minors and operate basically like he doesn't exist.

The Nats can't afford to make the same mistakes with their meager payroll and track record of bad baseball. Maya has no chance to be a pitcher in the Majors as a starter or reliever. Rizzo should cut his ties now an offer him back to a bullcrap Dominican team or something similar.

What about a lower level prospect? One who's a little further away? I don't think we have enough pitching depth at the very top levels to be trading those guys away at this point. We seem to have a plethora at the lower levels, I'd prefer to go that route.

I'd probably give up Solis, but if we were to have a package of Desmond and Solis, we may have to throw in someone else like Taylor Jordan, Cameron Selik, etc.

Do you even know what you're arguing about? You said a well run organization like the Yankees would not sign a pitcher like Maya, that's obviously not true because they signed Igawa to that huge contract. The Nats have Maya in the minors, he costs nothing but money. There's no salary cap, there is no evidence whatsoever that Maya is keeping the team from signing anyone else. You're just making crap up at this point.

For cirssakes, what is everyone's obsession with Maya? As far as the big picture is concerned. the Maya situation is nothing but a bug on the windshield at this point. He's an international signing that didn't pan out.  SO WHAT. LET IT GO

Well what about that? Is that a gross overpayment?

And Carl Pavano.

For some of us it's a cause for concern, like Matt Stares still being on the 25 man.

How do you know the Lerners(AC) won't tighten the budget after the Werth and Maya failures? Those signings may harm us for years to come. That has yet to be determine yet.

Maya is taking up roster space in the Minors and on the 40 man roster spot. And we are paying him a good chunk of money too!

The Nats have been talking for years how they want to expand our presence into Latin America and beyond and we have Yunesky Maya and his 1-7 record and 5.32 AAA ERA this season.

Stairs is a concern, Maya is not. One's stashed in the minors harming nothing and no one, one's clogging a spot on the 25 man. Two entirely different things.

Again, this is not a black and white situation. Some things matter, some things don't. Some things are good, some things are not.

No way. I doubt the Twins would do that. Solis #4 potential at this point who is still a ways away and Selik/Jordan are #5 types who are also a few years away. And Desmond is the worst hitting SS in baseball.
