Nationals @ Astros, Game 3
« Topic Start: July 20, 2011, 09:10:39 AM »
[20 July, 2011 - 2:05 PM Federal Time - Minute Maid Park - Houston, Texas, USA]

Our barbecue, who art in Texas,
Brisket be thy name

Thy charcoals warm,
Thy steaks rare-done,
Our plates as they were heaven.

Give us this day our daily ribs

And pass us the creamed corn
as we have also passed you the creamed corn.

And lead us not into temptation,
unless it's the last brisket and nobody else wants it.

I miss you, Houston.
I miss you, Texas.
They don't have barbecue over here,
and it makes me sorry I ever left.
But 32 days from now, I'm coming home.
It's been a long time.

Love,
~ houston-nat.

Snow's BBQ, Lexington, TX
48-49

[lineups TBD]

SP Livan Hernandez, pitmaster

      Luling City Market, Luling, TX
32-65

[lineups TBD]

SP Brett Myers, pitmaster

Yes, folks, just a month until I come home. The first thing I'm gonna do? Get me some ribs! You're sure as hell gonna lose this game, Houston Astros. But your state's nation's barbecue will always be a winner in my heart.

This post pairs well with a nice cold bottle of Shiner Bock. Or a margarita on the rocks with salt.

Altuve is going to make his ML debut today against Livan. This should be fun :?

Livo should plunk Pence in return for them hitting Morse on purpose last night.

After last night's close-but-no-cigar I want to see some urgency out there. We need to take this series against the disAstros!

Side note, only one of those barbecue pictures is generic off the internet: the steak.

The ribs and creamed corn are from Rudy's, "The Worst Bar-B-Q in Texas, which is about 3 miles from my house.

The first brisket is from Luling City Market, which I tried to eat at once but it was closed that night.

The last brisket is from Snow's BBQ in Lexington, TX, which is only open on Saturday mornings, but is so famous that it has been called the best barbecue in Texas and there are lines out the door at 8am Saturday morning.

I think they open at 6:30 or 7 (so they start cooking a couple hours earlier still). They close whenever they run out of meat, which is usually around 11am

I've never been - lived a two-hour drive away...

today is a must.

you know how much it'd suck to lose today, have to wait all day today ... all day tomorrow ... and all day friday until 10 EST to attempt to get our next win?

If Livo hits someone with a pitch, and they don't feel it, did it ever happen?

Jose Altuve is making his Major League debut in this one. Hit .389/.426/.591 w/ 10 HR and 10 triples in 87 games in the minors this season.

He's also from some reports anywhere from 5'5" to 5'7".

Apparently a lot like Marcus Giles... but doing it without the roids.

Doesn't look like he takes many pitches.  Probably also has a bit of an all or nothing swing.  Livo will destroy him softly with the 60 mph curve.

Nixs' achilles must still be sore. There is no relief for it other than rest and some stretching exercises (minimal). It is one area that blood does not flow to assist the healing process. That is why he isn't playing today and with tomorrows off day it will give him some rest.

Why sit Hairston over Cora when he had three hits ( are you listening Werth?) last night.
