Dude can have some credit here.  He's forced houston-nat off the deep end and that's tough to do.

Congrats S37 - you are a full-on troll.

Make Stairs the hitting coach. Have Eckstein a hitting coach for the farm system...team by team, rating the hitters, coaching them up to major league levels.

I read the interview with Stairs on Werth's hitting, and Stairs is a thoughtful and observant guy.

Looks like some of the storms I've seen pictures of from Iraq when a friend of mine was there.  Looks like a sand Tsunami!

They're most common in Sudan and can be found in other countries in and bordering the Sahara as well - in fact in Khartoum they have haboob warnings (everybody indoors when one of them tears through town). They also mess up flight operations in the region - the sand can kick up all the way to cruising altitudes at times.

---

Anyway...

Matt Stairs
Jayson Werth stares (at too many called strikes, notably third ones)
Too much sta(i)ring going on....

It's possible to troll a thread about a guy being swallowed up by a haboob?

Yeah, you ruined it.

Fixed for what actually makes sense to people without a fantastically single-minded perspective.

This is why I'm always skeptic of apologies.

Stairs is not even worthy to play in the GCL.

OK this is not my belief but reading several articles on Hanrahans ascension to becoming an all-star he expressed the untenable atmosphere  that existed in the club house as players were being cut left and right. He was often wondering when he would be next.

Perhaps that is why Rizzo is keeping Stairs. Of course,  if Stairs was cut ( he won't be traded as who in the hell would want him) or who on the team would miss him or be adversely affected by his deserved dismissal besides Worth. And of course , there would be no message sent as Werth is guaranteed his money regardless. This really sounds like some of the Minaya contracts that the Mets are still on the hook.

I think the reason Hanrahan was wondering whether he would be cut is probably because he was not doing well in combination with players getting cut left and right.  He should have been wondering whether he would be cut.  In the current clubhouse, OTOH, there are really very few players in that situation.  Other than Burnett, Bally and Stairs (probably Mattheus too since I suspect he's on a very short leash), who's in immediate danger of getting cut?  Even Bixler doesn't seem that likely to get sent to the minors and he's been dreadful.

This atmosphere happens when a GM stocks up on "upside" and "filler" players during the off-season and expects people to compete. We need an increase in the quality of the signings, not necessarily quantity, and to get away from signing "filler" players to major league deals. Bowden took it to extremes with pitchers without much measurable long term result, Rizzo continues the practice to a lesser degree.

Filler just lasts until the spot gets filled. For instance, once Rizzo got Wilson Ramos we stopped living with Bard, Nieves, etc. Once Espinosa stuck we stopped going through guys like Adam Kennedy, Cristian Guzman, Ronnie Belliard, Alberto Gonzalez.

It's my hope that we will find ourselves a center fielder this deadline and be able to free ourselves of filler like Ankiel. I'm already amazed Nix has been so much more than filler.

Would this scenario be possible ? Marquis is not traded and Wang has to be brought up July 26 or 27(?). We then cut Stairs loose  and Gorzelanny goes to the pen and we have 13 pitchers and only 12 position players for the month of August. Because of Stairs  (and Rizzo ) we have been playing with a 24 man roster all season.

Could Debbi Taylor word it differently, such as "How helpful has Matt Stairs been to the team ?"

Would you still stop nagging about her if she asked Rizzo in this manner ?

Well then, how exactly does your post relate to Matt Stairs or a haboob?

S37 needs to ask himself that before posting, every time.

Only if her tone is extremely sarcastic and she rolls her eyes while waiting for the answer.

Too much of a softball question - he'd probably go on about 'intangibles' (always the last refuge of the defenders of washed-up players)...great leader in the clubhouse, great team player etc etc....

Typically, we'll get dust storms like this, and dust will be lofted maybe 1,000 feet in the air," Weaver said. "On Monday, we saw evidence on radar of dust reaching up to 8,000 feet, and the visibility reduction from the [storm's] leading edge was much worse than we typically see."

Weather service forecasters believe the rare event -- classified as a "haboob," a severe dust storm named for an Arabic word that means "strong wind" -- was caused by an unusually strong cold front sweeping down from the Rocky Mountains into an area where fields are bone dry after a year of drought.
