I don't think so. They have to keep him for the full season and I can't recall us losing anyone in the Rule 5 for more than a partial season . Oooops the guy who was claimed by Philly.
I said selected, not necessarily lost. Skole sucks, so we'll probably get him back eventually.

I feel like Michael Martinez might have been lost to the Phillies if that's who you meant.
Adrian Nieto

Thank you

Isn't Skole eligible for the AAA portion of the rule 5 draft, since he was in AA last year? I could see him being taken in that, for sure.

I don't think that applies to first time eligibles

100 points of OBP is nice to see. The lack of SLG is not.

Minor league filler.

No shame. Just is what it is.

No one mentioned he is now at AAA Syracuse. He also is starting at 1b since going there. I think this is maybe the moment they are going to see if they want to have him on the 40 for next year.

Didn't exactly light it up in Double A this year.

I know but this organization has zero left handed power besides Harper. Maybe look at him as a bench bat for next year especially since Zim will.probably be hurt.

Clint Robinson says hi.  Skole's raw power is better, but if he's not making contact, they aren't going to see it in a game.  Actually, den Dekker has power, too, and is under team control, and can play defense.

If any of our 'disappointments' make the big league bench, I think it's Goodwin. He just hasn't developed his hit tool, but he's got some pop, some speed, can take a walk, and play defense. He could be a decent bench option one day as a pinch hitter, pinch runner, and defensive replacement. Not predicting it, just saying I see him more likely to have a big league future that Skole.

I think Den Dekker has that locked down. When Den Dekker hits arb and gets expensive, maybe

Bench pieces turn over constantly. Every year the Nats have new bench bats. Tyler Moore's longevity is actually pretty impressive.

because most bench pieces we've had have been veterans brought in on the cheap. Den Dekker isn't going to be good enough to crack the starting lineup, unless he gets tossed into a trade, he'll be a bench bat for the rest of his time here

den Dekker isnt a middle of the order type. Clint Robinson probably won't be on the team next year some low division AL squad needing a DH will give him a contract. Skole probably is on his last go around with this promotion. We know Rizzo doesn't like giving up on guys he is high on.

Robinson isn't a free agent until after the 2020 season.

Luckily, we control Robinson for a few years. I'm guessing he is the new and improved Tyler Moore.

Dfa'd off the 40-man to make room for Kendrick.

Quote
•The Nationals released corner infielder Matt Skole after he cleared waivers following a recent DFA, Mark Zuckerman of MASNsports.com (via Twitter). The 27-year-old lost his 40-man spot when the Nats acquired Howie Kendrick and evidently was not seen as being a part of the team’s future plans. A left-handed hitter, Skole has launched twenty or more home runs in several minor-league campaigns, including last year at Triple-A, and has consistently maintained a walk rate in the vicinity of 12% in the high minors. He also once rated as one of the Nats’ better prospects. But injuries have limited the Georgia Tech product quite a bit as a professional and he has spent more time at first base than at third in recent years.

Was such a good power prospect once upon a time. Was supposed to be Thome light.

Probably gave him the release as a favor.  He's not going to play corner infield for this team over the next couple of years, so he can hope to hook on with some team down the minor league last month and go as a minor league FA next year.  They aren't going to protect him over the winter.  For him, you can hope he has a Chris Marrero moment.

Returned to Auburn to finish out the season, declared for free agency on 11/6/17, then signed with White Sox on 11/21/17.
