Comparative dates on which the Nationals notched their 36th win, each season:

2005 - 11th June (62nd match of season)
2011 - 21st June (73rd match)
2010 - 3rd July (82nd match)
2006 - 3rd July (84th match)
2007 - 8th July (88th match)
2008 - 11th July (94th match)
2009 - 5th August (108th match)

---

Nationals are also now 2-0 in home matches I've missed due to Mystics conflicts (also won Cardinals finale last week). Next Mystics conflict is Sunday after next (Pirates II finale - a partial conflict since tip-off isn't till 16.00 so I'll still catch the first few innings); next full conflict is Tuesday 26th July (opener of Marlins II series).

....upon further reflection, and as much fun as a five run comeback complete with a walk off home run is, it wasn't a great game last night, it WAS a great half inning.
Way to keep battling.
Go Nats!

Yeah, I was thinking the 9th was going to be another one of the big teases, but they ended up pulling it off. No doubt that the Nats had no business winning that game, but that's the thing about baseball, you can see several different games in one. They keep battling.

We need to take one of the next two from these chumps.

They can't pound out that many hits again, can they?  Bedard and Pineda will be tough though.

The Mariners TV broadcast call of the homer is classic.

"No way.... No way.... NO WAY..... No way."

Yeah, I enjoyed that even more than Charlie Slowes Loses His crap on the radio. Then after the last "no way" there's total silence for like 5 seconds before the guy can finally bring himself to say what just happened.

I may be a jerk for saying this, but I enjoyed reading this.

------------
That Nationals/Padres game. That game from years ago, where the Nationals took a 5-0 lead into the ninth, allowed a game-tying grand slam to Khalil Greene, and later lost in extra innings. That game where the Nationals announcer groaned ohhh nooooo as soon as the ball left Greene's bat. I've talked about it here and linked it a bunch of times. I've delighted in it. I delighted in it then, and I delight in it now, because it was an awesome, completely unexpected turn of events.

I guess this is how the Nationals get me back. The sequence of events today was different from the sequence of events in the Padres game, but then, the sequence of events was basically the same, right down to Dave Sims repeating No way as Wilson Ramos raised his arms. This game was that game, and I suppose it's only fair that I should have to experience both sides. I don't actually believe this, but I'd like to.

Hairston is clearly training himself to be a manager.

I thought the exact same thing.

He broke the whole game down in terms of strategy and individual contributions and down played his awesome hit entirely.

Front Row, right above the A in the W.B. Mason ad, you'll see me pop up (white Nat's jersey, arms up for a touchdown) once I figure out the ball's gonna be out of there.
great fun, we had the rally hats going out there on the porch.

Love the Win Expectancy chart by Fangraphs tonight...

Zimmerman's double play brought their WE down to the level of their postseason odds at BP

I turned the game off as Livan was pulled :-[. I expected to get up this morning 3 games under and the remainder of the season heading for the crapper. Yeah , I see the glass half empty.Too many disappointments with this rendition and Senators I and II .

I believe we will play around .500 ball for the remainder of the season and I would love us to best 2005 if only by  a game.I think the table is set and with Stras returning next year and if our offense does not go on hiatus to start the season, I think we will surprise some people with a run at the WC for 2012.

no the greene grand slam was worse than this.  that game had some playoff implications for us and IIRC, we were up 5-0 to start the inning.  that was an awful moment in nats history.

From Larry Granillo's BP blog on HR trot times:

http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=14326

Quote
Slowest Trot: Wilson Ramos, Washington Nationals - 27.54 seconds
This isn't another payback trot, like Ramos did to Arizona a couple of weeks ago. No, this trot registers so slow because it is of the walkoff variety, the final piece of a five-run, two-out rally in the bottom of the ninth. Maybe it didn't need a 27-second trot, but it was a home run very much deserving of a celebration.

nice find.

i don't think it's a big deal.  the mariners should be worried about how they lost this game today instead of wilson ramos showing them up, in my opinion.  i guess we'll see tonight what they thought about it?

I hate to give them credit for anything, but the Phillies are ridiculous.  We'd only be 2-4 games back in any other division in baseball (except the AL East of course)
