I find this so stunning.  Mind-bogglingly stunning and curious.  I'm actually going to look this up but I would be stunned if any other team has had this amount of roster "stability".  Ben or Mark or Adam should do a story/blog entry about this because it's not the norm.  I'm a fairly regular reader of mlbtraderumors and teams are constantly DFA'ing players for bad play or injuries.  Looking at this roster (see Stairs, Matt), looking at how this team has played for much of the season (see Stairs, Matt), this feels...wrong.

I think this deserved a topic of it's own because it's so strange.  It's been metioned in the forums but not focused on directly.

You forgot Lee Hyde. Granted 2 is still pretty low.

He wasn't on the 25-man roster.  Broderick is the only player on the 25-man roster, the only one wearing a Nationals uniform.

Hell, if we extend this to the 40-man roster it's even more remarkable and that's remarkable in the worst sense.  Matt Stairs is an All Star compared to Garrett Mock!

This team's 40-man roster is even weaker than the 25-man roster!

Was Broderick even DFA'd though?  Didn't we just ship him back to the Cards?

You weren't specific and it wasn't a criticism anyway. The link I provided is the best list I have seen but I have my doubts that it is all inclusive; although closer than anything else I have seen.

It is the same number as Detriot. I am mildly curious at this point but not enough to count the others. It would be interesting to see the characterics of teams with stable rosters; be they good or ill.

Yes. Broderick was DFA'd as part of the process, as a rule 5 he went back to the Cards instead of passing through waivers.

And my response wasn't a criticism just a response, mostly to keep my thread at the top.  :)

...and to take a cheap shot at Garrett Mock.  And Yunesky Maya  :spaz:  He's on the 40-man roster.  Putrid!

...and Atahualpa Severino.  I haven't seen him enough to even have a real judgement.  I just have no idea why he's on the 40-man roster...because he's left handed maybe???  I look at the Nationals organization like the solar system.  The players on the 40-man, not on the 25 are in direct orbit of the major league team.  They should be good, certainly replacement level, at least.

Garrett Mock shouldn't be in that orbit.

Atahualpa sounds like an Aztec name.

Ugh. I started napping and dreamt we got Cantu off waivers to play 1B and Riggleman evenly split time in left between Nix/Hairston/Morse through double switches. :spaz:

Too much WNFF; say it ain't so.
