This is the first of two chances the Nats have to win two matches in a series at San Diego:

- for the first time ever as the Nationals
- for the first time in combined Expos/Nats history since the then-Expos won the first and third of a three-match set on 17th-19th August 2001

I would take Sunday, but Hammonds pulled seniority on me.

Fixed.

Haha. Not quite. I just screwed up.

It's a beautiful 67º day here in SD. Should be a great night at the park. I will probably drink a few of these:

i have a feeling if we win tonight we'll win the series.  Lannan has been really good as of late and Zimmermann will get it done tomorrow.

A 6-5 road trip coming back home would be friggin awesome.

LaRussa-esque lineup tonight.  Is this Riggs' way to commemorate TL's 5000th game managed?

Werth 9
Desmond 6
Espinosa 4
Morse 3
Ramos 2
Hairston 5
Ankiel 8
Lannan 1
Bernadina 7

Lannan is such a bad hitting pitcher too.

this ... there's not a gaping hole at the top of the line-up.

and one can't fault riggleman, everyone has been barking for some kind of change, well here is one.

hopefully it pays off.

Werth leading off makes sense.. but why is Lannan batting over Bernadina?

To give the Nats a second leadoff hitter.

6 straight righties (or switch hitter) against a lefty...me likey

I don't care who bats leadoff, I just want a curly W. I just hope Werth and/or Bernadina isn't offended or feel slighted in any way.

Werth won't, it's no slight to him it's actually a compliment.

Bernadina shouldn't feel slighted.  He's brought it upon himself.

Bernadina, Ankiel, Stairs and Bixler should just be happy to have MLB jobs.

They'd have no right to complain about playing time, IMO.

I realize that, but batting 9th in the NL has a stigma attached to it. I personally think it won't effect Bernie but I know there a lot of players who would be pretty ticked off if they were moved down to 9th in an NL lineup.

Is Jim Riggleman drunk???  What an inspired lineup!!

I didn't think he had it in him.

Although I'd like Nix in it over Ankiel, any lineup without Stairs and Bixler is fine.

This is a stat-boy batting order, except Desi batting where one of your 3 best hitters should be. I might prefer Espinosa there.  But it is v. a lefty, so I can live with it.  I like getting bernie out of leadoff v. a LHP.
