Just thought this should have it's 15 seconds of fame, as this is sad news for baseball.

MINNEAPOLIS -- The Twins' hopes of having Francisco Liriano in the rotation for next season were erased on Friday when the club announced that Liriano will undergo Tommy John elbow surgery on Monday in Los Angeles.

The surgery will be performed by noted specialist Lewis Yocum, and he will be assisted by Twins team physician John Steubs. The surgery means that Liriano will likely be sidelined for the entire 2007 season.

The decision to perform surgery comes after months of uncertainty for Liriano, as he has continued to be plagued by soreness in his left elbow. After being examined by Twins physicians along with other specialists -- most notably James Andrews in Birmingham, Ala., and John Uribe in Miami -- without any real answers, Liriano flew to California on Thursday to get a final opinion from Yocum.

While, yes, this is sad, I have to admit I am sort of numb to this news considering the amount of Nationals that have been on the DL during 06'.

I hate when young studs go down with bad injuries that effect their careers greatly, hopefully Liriano doesn't turn out to be in a Prior, Wood situation.

Seriously though, when Dan Blackburn, a 21 year-old goalie for the Rangers, had to retire due to injury, I shed some tears. It's so sad when it happens.

It's not quite as sad when it happens to a Ranger though!
