That's next year...

Being under the weather, perhaps my sarcasm detector is off a bit... Honestly though, this year's class just wasn't good enough to grab a franchise qb. Next years class is stronger. The only qb I felt remotely comfortable with in the first round was Jake Locker and I still feel like he was a reach in the first. The only other qb that I would have taken was Ryan Mallett but that is based solely on talent not character. Looks like both players went to the right teams.

Next year I'd love to get Luck-y but could be content with Landry Jones, Matt Barkley, and Kellen Moore. I'm intrigued by Ryan Lindley as well but need more info on him.

I was joking bro.

Kellen Moore would be ok for an Arena team, not the NFL.  Honestly, I would have taken Ryan Mallett if I had the picks to gamble.

Not a prob man, didn't know if we were running the "2 years away" thing here or not.

I agree about Moore, I don't know that he has the physical abilities to make it as a starter in the NFL. Before people compare him to Brees, Brees has a cannon compared to Moore and has an almost freaky ability to find open receivers against the best d's in the NFL.

As for Mallett, we did have the picks to take a shot in the 3rd where I feel he would have been an excellent value pick with a ton of upside. Going to NE was the best thing to happen to him though. He shouldn't have to play for at least 2 years and can learn under one of the very best to ever play the game. Look how that worked out for Aaron Rodgers.

I really had hoped we'd have gotten Locker though. There is just something about him that I can't help but like. I think he'll end up either an elite qb or just a hair below elite.

There is something depressing about all of the major sports teams (3 of 4 if you consider hockey to still be a major sport) being perpetually 2 years away especially when none are actually rebuilding as opposed to building

I think Moore would make an excellent backup QB / game manager starter if necessary. I'd draft him in mid rounds.

I'd take him as a late round pick or as an UFA but I'd only draft him if I had multiple late round picks. He just doesn't offer much upside. I think you're right though, he'll do OK as a backup/emergency starter.

Continuing from the GDT:

We haven't had a legit franchise qb since Sonny. Joe T was a good qb, but I just don't know that I'd ever call him a franchise qb.
In looking at the famed "Hogs", they were a great run blocking unit, but they didn't pass block so well. Theisman was sacked at least 28 times each season he had more than 182 attempts. The "high water mark" was 1984 when he was sacked 48 times. On the other hand, in 1991 on the way to the Super Bowl and a 14-2 season, Mark Rypien was sacked... wait for it... 7 times. SEVEN TIMES! That has to be one of the single greatest offensive lines ever. From left to right: Jim Lachey, Raleigh McKenzie, Jeff Bostic, Mark Schlereth and Joe Jacoby.

Edit:

Dan Marino, known for his quick release, was sacked 6 times in... 606 frickin' attempts! WOW, now that unit could pass block, but they weren't the total package like that Skins line. Also, in 2009 Peyton Manning was sacked 10 times in 571 drop backs. He is also well regarded for his quick release.

I've also got a quick release... but for some reason, the ladies don't seem to be impressed by it.

There is no question the line got a little better when an aging George Starke retired after the 1984 season. And again when Lachey was acquired so Jacoby could move to RT. Bu it never occurred to you that Theismann was actually the one taking more sacks than he should have in those earlier years? The rate at which the QB was sacked took a significant dive after Theismann played his last game. Thiesmann was a good leader and game manager but not much more than that.

I realize that Theisman took more sacks than he should have, but you also have to take into consideration that I'm only 34. I really didn't get to see Theisman play much but I do recall he was pretty good athlete. That being said, Rypien was an absolute statue, although he did do pretty well with those play action roll out passes. It's sad that the '91 team gets very little respect as far as Super Bowl teams go.

Mostly because they didn't have the hype that other great teams had. In other words, they didn't get hailed as the greatest offense or defense like the 99 Rams or 85 Bears. Also, they didn't win back to back SB's and people tend to remember more fondly the so called dynasties. But rest assured the 91 Redskins were a dominant team.

seating question - how bad are the corner and sideline seats in the 200's?

Some people say they don't mind them but my advice to you is to stay clear away from them or you will end up watching parts of the game on monitors.

Would you rather sit in the 400's? I want to take my friend to see the game vs the 49'ers.

I knew that 91 Redskins team was going to win the Super Bowl from the first drive of the season.

I think the 1st or 2nd play of the SEASON, Rypien threw a 60-something yard TD pass to Gary Clark.  thats when I knew they were gonna win the SB.

broke my heart to admit it.

Grossman picking it up.

My first instinct is to cheer for the Redskins, but I've got the Giants on this game.
