So how is the weather up there in DC ?  There is a planetary alignment this afternoon/evening in the southwest sky:

I guess you have me on Ignore MG.

I am able to see it in Orlando although we could not locate the binoculars which would help. In the Southwest sky.

No - look at the times.  You were posting while I was typing to post.  It was random.

SpaceX sent a starship up to about 33,000' and then spectacularly belly-flopped it into the launch pad.

An elegant failure.

Practice makes perfect. Also, note that they managed to get it right back to the pad, next to another upright starship which awaits its launch. A feat that SpaceX repeats with regularity. Some of their smaller boosters are on flight six (maybe more).

Yeah, they aren't too worried about the landings yet, right now the launch and the maneuvering back to the pad are the primary goals.

For All Mankind season two debuted last night. Looks like this season is going to be pretty interesting.

SpaceX took a starship prototype to 40k feet and landed it back on the launch pad....where it blew up about six minutes later.  Still, a remarkable feat.

Here's the coolest story i've heard in a long time: The helicopter that the Mars perseverance rover brought with it contains a small piece of cloth from the Wright Brothers original flier.

SpaceX did another starship test launch today, all seemed to be going well until they lit the rockets for controlled landing at about the 1KM mark, and then it appears to have failed.

Fake news without pix, and pix can be deep fakes.

I am also going to buy a tin foil hat with a couple of rotors just like infinity.

Just another drone.  No biggie.

Well, it had to be engineered to fly in 1% of Earth's atmosphere. They used 4' wings spinning in opposite directions.  It will only fly a total of four times and then be abandoned, the atmosphere is too thin for it to carry very much in the way of instruments so it's not all that useful for exploration.

Lots more geekery here: https://www.nytimes.com/2021/04/19/science/nasa-mars-helicopter.html
