Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of earth,
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds, --and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of --Wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there
I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air...
Up, up the long, delirious, burning blue
I've topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace
Where never lark or even eagle flew --
And, while with silent lifting mind I've trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.

I can’t imagine how you felt to see it finally launch. It must have been an amazing experience. What a wonderful tribute.

A true and fitting honor for your Dad.  Good that you saw this through and made it happen.

Thanks, kids...it was well worth the 5 year wait... 👍

I'm told that Neil Diamond was at the memorial ceremony yesterday.  His wife's brother was a blue angels pilot and astronaut...she spoke pretty late in the program as I recall...and no, JCA, her name was not Caroline...  😂

Quite a montage of personalities on board this morning.  War heros, daredevils, space industry folks, and just regular Jane and John Does...

The Smithsonian is running a light show on the Mall to celebrate the moon landing, using the Washington Monument as a screen:

Also the 50th anniversary of the original release of Space Oddity:

This isn't the one that usually gets played and was the hit.

Go see the projection of the Saturn 5 rocket on the Washington Monument if you can, definitely worth the hassle of getting there.  It's not a still image but rather a moving one that shows the gasses venting out of the rocket as if it were on the actual launch pad.

Went down to the mall tonight to watch the video on the monument. There was almost no sound but it was very well done.  Tomorrow is the last night with showings at 9:30, 10:30 and 11:30.

Is it something one could park nearby somewhat easily to do, or was it mobbed
