http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/03/03/astros-catcher-jason-castro-likely-to-undergo-knee-surgery/

The Astros starting catcher hurt his knee.  Maybe they need a good defensive catcher with veteran leadership qualities who knows how to handle a pitching staff to fill in while their primary guy heals up.

Tyler's insight picked up by Fangraphs, except with a twist.
Quote
Given those punch less options already on the roster, the Astros could explore the trade or free agent markets. The Pirates are eager to unload Ryan Doumit (.264/.329/.429 ZiPS) and his $5.1 million salary, though he makes Towles look like a picture of health and comes with the “No-Mitt” moniker for a reason. Tampa could look to dump Kelly Shoppach (.217/.316/.400), who missed two months with a right knee injury last year, is owed $3 million and figures to be bumped off the roster soon by Matt Garza trade bauble Robinson Chirinos. Maybe they’ll inquire about Washington’s Jesus Flores. The former Rule V pick out of the Mets’ system has shown good power, but his career has stalled due to labrum surgery. On the free agent front, Bengie Molina‘s out there. But the 36-year-old is mulling retirement and his ZiPS forecast (.258/.290/.392) is wretched.
I hope the Astros did not see today's game.

I guess this is just Fangraphs effort to get into Tyler's good graces.  With me, they gave me a winning megamillions ticket.  Oops, I was not supposed to say that or else I forfeit the ticket.  Darn.  That explains how I dress.

Ha! I may not need to retreat to the MLB.com boards after all.

I do think that fangraphs is usually way off base in terms of real-life baseball vs. the world of sabermetrics and dollar value per level of performance and such.  However in this case, since they have so very obviously plagiarized my wnff.net post, I will say that I am in agreement.  :)

Glad to see the Phillies slow motion disappointment has begun.  Too bad it had to start off with an injury, but it's not all that unexpected given his age, history, and position.  I bet Rollins has another subpar year, too.

I saw this about Reyes and the Mutts - http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2011/03/mets-want-reyes-to-improve-obp-before-multiyear-deal.html.

Wilpons/Mutts want a better OBP from Reyes before committing to a long term deal with him.  Sounds like an excuse to me.  The Wilpons are starting to look like Gaddafi - hanging on for dear life past the point where an exit seems inevitable.  Obviously not a life or death situation like Libya, but still.  Sucks for Mets fans.

The Heat have by and large disappointed - they can't beat any good teams.  Why not the Phillies, too?

Or will they be in a perpetual state of drunkenness to know the difference?

Dominic Brown broke his hand.  Dude strikes out a hundred times and the first time he makes contact he breaks his hand.  OK.  Way to go, Phillies.

Zaun retiring.  What's the Padres' catching situation now?  Any chance they'd want another 39 year old catcher?

They need a veteran catcher, but I doubt they'd want Pudge. They should try to get Bengie Molina out of semi-retirement. Personally, I think they should have brought back Henry Blanco.

Wow another catcher goes down.  We should pick 50 catchers in the amateur draft this June and trade them to the highest bidders.

Mark Prior pitched a scoreless inning today for the Yankees, it's great to see him back even if he's in pinstripes.

http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2011/03/cardinals-inclined-to-pursue-bullpen-help.html#

The Cards are looking for bullpen help (already).  We've got a ton of surplus arms.  Stammen could work there and would probably get a shot at both starting and in relief.  Gaudin, too.

Mets broadcasters talking about the Phillies rotation (and who isn't these days), have we seen yet anything where they've discussed how that rotation will look in terms of which order they'll go?  I'm assuming Halladay will be the #1, but beyond that, who gets the #2, 3 and 4 spots?
