They have a SCARY rotation. That is really amazing. The phils should easily win the division for the next couple of years. Is there a point for us to even try?
You know, they do have a wild card in MLB now?

Seriously, this is not about us winning the division in 2011. This is about us not accepting losing and trying to improve however incrementally. Real classy organziations have that mindset. I assume that's what the Nats want.

Absolutely.  Get Greinke.  Pair him with SS next year and pick up one of the other #1s that will be on the market next year.  If they do get Webb or Wang and one of them pans out and Zmann is what some think he can be, I'll take that rotation going up vs. the Phillies or anybody else's.

SS is only going to be ready in 2012. They still have 4 #1s. Greinke will cost prospects, probably a lot more now. But as of right now, we'd need 3 additional frontline starters, which we don't have. So could/would/might, as of right now, it is what it is and this coming year, is a wash without SS obviously.

Yes, by next year, I meant 2012.  But Greinke is attainable now.  Once SS went down, the goal shifted to 2012.  If you've got a chance to pick up a piece of that puzzle now, you should do it.

Well, if you think Howard's equally valuable, then it's clear which is which.

My thoughts have nothing to do with the criticism. The pundits called it a bad deal because of Howard's age/length of contract and the potential for his production to decline. None of those reasons are different for Lee. Neither of these contracts are the risk that the Yankees took in signing A-Hole, Teixeira or Burnett in light of Jeter's contract set to expire. Then compound it by screwing up the resigning of Jeter (any wonder they wiffed on Crawford and Lee?)

No wonder the Nats didn't sign Lee. I just found out his middle name is Phifer.

And he is only 26-22 in the regular season over the last two years. True, great post-season record, but the Nats don't have to worry about facing him there.:~)

No joke - I may end up rooting for the Yankees next year.  I like that they valued legacy and heritage and the Yankee brand by resigning Jeter.  And they're wasting the DH slot on Posada just because he's one of the remaining 'core.'

Used extra money this year to sign Werth. Maybe can use extra money next off-season to sign Oswalt.

Actually, DPM is on to about the easiest way to compete with the Phillies pitching.  A Greinke trade, especially one not involving JZ, a recovered Strasburg, and a hit on a recovering ace like Webb / Harden would be a formidable top 3 or 4 if JZ is still here.

trust me i'd be down for that.

Sign LaRoche & Webb and trade for Greinke, that's a productive offseason in my book.

Don't forget to add Wang as well, IMO.

Just think of the reward if Webb and Wang turned into what they used to be... then throwing those two into a rotation with Stras, Greinke, JZ... :az:

So would I. Imagine Wang sneaking in those balls. That sinker is a deadly weapon, yeah?

Neither can I. It sucks. A mistake from day 1. Oh well. Maybe LaRoche can hold us down for a couple of years until we stumble onto something.

My liver can't take a couple of years of LaRoche.

ESPN just used WAR in a comparison of Lee and his teammates in the Phillies rotation
