Rizzo says the size of right in Nats Park makes Werth a good fit out there.

I'm guessing for now it is Willingham in left, a competition in CF between Bernie and Nyjer, and Werth in right, with Morgan Morse penciled into 1st until the next deal / signing.

BTW,  on sort of a PotCan point, got to love how often Rizzo said OF was not a priority and that we were not looking at OFs.

True, though he was wrong about Dunn, so he's just flipping a coin so far.  Worse if Pena comes here.  I think he already thumped his chest in this thread, though of course he completely ignored all the taunting after Dunn signed with the Sox.

Please tell me that's a typo.

So Bernadina/Morgan to battle it out for CF?
I kind of hope, barring a Willingham trade and with a Pena / LaRoche signing, that you would see Morse playing in right v. lefties and Werth in CF, but I can see how a Willingham / Werth / Morse outfield might hurt a few fences, tear up the turf, and otherwise cause damage to the stadium.

I already admitted I was wrong, what else do you want.

I want you to butt out.  I'm arguing with Chief now.

It was interesting how he just disappeared on this part of the forum, yet active in the off-topic and online constantly that day...

Not so much giving PotCan kudos, because he is only batting .500 this week, but more for Rizzo in his inscrutableness.

Last thing I'll say on the subject.

I love the Nats signed Jayson Werth... I hope he's awesome and hits 50 bombs a year.

I worry about what he'll look like in years 5-7.

I also won't make the same mistake to say anything negative about Rizzo's next signings because I don't want another firestorm when I'm just trying to be reasonable about the whole thing.

Welcome to D.C. Jayson... I'll probably buy your jersey just to get people off my back!

Plenty of people in this thread have the same concerns, Linty.  You just got chosen to be the sacrificial lamb this time

Actually, it's kind of cool to see how active the thread has been and how many people are on-line.  It sure beats the indifference and complete hostility it looked like we were in for a couple days ago.

To me, you came off sounding a bit sour on what should be a very positive thing for the team.  Gawd knows we haven't had much positive to talk about.

That being said, of course anytime you sign a player to a long deal, the risk is substantial that the final years will be an anvil to the franchise, but at least they are taking this one step forward towards putting a team on the field in 2011 that will be competitive.  Prior to this they had done nothing, absolutely nothing.

They'd made it worse by jettisoning good players and fan favorites like Peralta and Dunn.

Would people rather the team sit idly on their thumbs and go with Bernadina/Morgan in RF/CF and Mike Morse at 1B?

Honestly you are the last person on earth that should be chiding anyone for negativity.

Now you're attempting to slyly compound his error to inflate your position?  Nice

I'm pretty sure no one has anything original left to say in this thread.

Actually, I've got a new take on this. I think that this deal could hurt us at the end because Werth will be 38 years old. Thoughts?

Everything on my mind about this deal has pretty much been pointed out by others here.  I know we're not supposed to think years down the line with ppl in the minor leagues, but how will this affect Bryce Harper if and when he makes his Nats debut?  I thought they were grooming him for RF.  Anyway, glad to get a good player in Washington, even if he's making star money.  I also wonder about the comment Rizzo made with regard to his best years are in front of him.  He ain't hitting behind Utley and Howard anymore.  Zimmerman is a beast, but he ain't those guys.
