I agree with you. But you had to try hard to get a dud in that draft. It was absolutely loaded.

2 teams in the top 5 got complete duds and then a 3rd, the Orioles, got Bundy who has been a below average starter.  There were a lot of good players that also went behind Rendon.  And individually not every decision/draft pick is all a GM.  They don't deserve all the praise or all the blame in many case by case examples, but they are ultimately responsible over the long haul.  When you consider where this organzation was when Rizzo took over 10 years ago, he gets at least a solid B.  I don't think he's a better GM if Storen closes a playoff game or Gio doesn't fall apart, although he'd be looked at it like he was.  That's just the way it is.  If this season ends without a postseason bid, then I think this offseason is big for his future.  He needs to retool or yes, it may be time for someone else.  But he deserves that chance.

The Nats have given up 60 runs in 61 games. In the 8th inning.

Rizzo has to do something and he needs to do it now,  before the Braves and Phillies make their trade deadline moves and are too far away

DJ Lemathieu

If it was your plan to have Kieboom play 2nd next year, signing Lameheiu to more years and more dollars didn’t make much sense. Plus some stats projected he might do poorly away from Coors. Although baseball references new stat (runs deserved or something similar?) was high on him, so there’s that.

but, he would have been insurance for either Rendon departing (Kieboom to 3d) or Kieboom not panning out.  At worst, he was a super utility.  The hitting away from Coors was more of a thing, I suppose, but still, the issue with the Dozier signing was how much of a bounceback would he have.  Risk to both.  We took the wrong one.

Since May 1:
Dozier: .267 / .342 / .475, 5 HRs

LeMahieu: .333 / .379 / .520 / 6 HRs

Yes, LeMahieu is having a better season, but not by a ridiculous amount.  I don't think it's a fair argument to say that had we signed him instead of Dozier we'd be in a much different position than we are now.

BTW: Dozier since May 15:
.310 / .379 / .603 / 4 HRs

LeMahieu:
.307 / .351 / .523 / 5 HRs

So April games don't matter? .323/.371/.480 would have been really freaking useful the last ten days in April.

If you want to make the argument that LeMahieu's success outside of Coors wasn't exactly expected, fine. But there is no way in hell that Brian Dozier is having an even remotely comparable season to LeMaheiu.

LeMaheiu is an All Star second baseman and Dozier isn't even the best second baseman on his team.

I didn't say they don't matter.  But it's a bit too soon to say we would have been better off signing LeMahieu over Dozier, it's a long season.

LeMahieu would have been a better signing because he can play all over the place and Dozier is a mediocre 2B who was unplayable for a month in a crucial time of the season. But DJ's utility alone would have been more valuable than anything Dozier can do. Howie Kendrick is more versatile than Brian Dozier, which is sad.

This. In hindsight, LeMahieu is the better signing.

Of course, not many were championing this in the offseason.

I can see why an AL team was more interested in him because of the DH. It's whatever, in hindsight we wish we could do it differently. I'm still pissed we didn't sign Adam Warren this offseason.

His 5.40 ERA would be an improvement ....

Giolito is an ace and Nick Pivetta actually looks decent.

Giolito

9-1
2.28 ERA
.92 WHIP
75 innings
89 K

So we chose to trade Giolito for Eaton and let Harper walk then we gave 140 million to Corbin who Is struggling now.

Has any of Rizzo's decisions worked out? Harper and Giolito would be better than Eaton and Corbin.

Not mentioning all the All Star relievers he has let go. Vasquez, Gott, Kelly, Petit, Kintzler, Treinen, Holland among others.

Gott .788 WHIP
Petit .887 WHIP
Kintzler .777 WHIP
Kelly 1.099 WHIP
Holland 1.015 WHIP
Vasquez 1.207 WHIP, 14.2 K/9
Treinen 1.4 WHIP

Oh and also Charlie Morton who we could have signed is 8-0 with a 2.10 ERA and a 1.020 WHIP in 81.8 innings with 98 K's.

If you could please point the posts at the time of those deals where you disagreed with the move . . .

If I cared about what you thought I could dig up some posts about me wanting to sign Morton and not wanting to trade Giolito. Or not wanting to get rid of any of those relievers.

Nationals fans don't even talk about Giolitto because when he was here you guys thought he sucked lol. It's the fact he is do well NOW, you trying to back track a blame Rizzo for trading him.

Is he paid to predict injuries? Which of these trades did the Nats not get a quality return?

Giolito did suck when he was here. He was coming un at 91-92.And couldn't throw anything for strikes.

Giolito for Eaton is looking like a pretty crappy return- even healthy, he’s mediocre

No. He was a 4-6 WAR player before the injuries.
