Zuck echoes that in his post, saying that the decision to fire Lilliquist had been in the works for a while, there were some that wanted him gone at the end of last year, and it's telling that the pitchers never mention working with him.  The new guy is said to be much more hands-on/involved.

If we hired black, there’s a reasonable chance he would have been scapegoated when the team flamed out in the playoffs because nothing can ever be Rizzo’s fault

Yes,  IF the team flamed out in the playoffs.  I think we would have won at least the Cubs series with Black.

2014 we had Drew Storen and Rafael Soriano
2015 we had Storen and had to trade for Papelbon
2016 - Traded for Melancon and gave away Felipe

Sorry, pen has always been an issue under Rizzo.

Prior to Doolittle getting here, closer was always an issue. Middle relief was solid for several years. if the argument is that Rizzo could never find a consistent closer prior to Doo I agree 100% on that.

I’m off Rizzo.  He needs to wear this season and this bullpen he built.  Absolute garbage. Calling up Kieboom? Garbage. Hiring the manager.  Inexcusable garbage. Might as well ride this season into the ground and start with a new GM and the manager in the offseason.

He's got a long term, lucrative deal.  He's not going anywhere either...

I'm with you now.  It took a long time for me to sour on Rizzo but now that this season and the next few seasons are done, it's time to start over with this franchise.  Fire every single member of the coaching staff, fire the GM, trade the players after they get back from the IL.  Maybe keep a couple of the young guys.

Rizz is a good promoter. Knows how to over sell a player like Scott Boras

The Nats have no 5 start prospects. Kieboom--Kant Kecatch or hit; Soto and Robles, nice players but not franchise builders. we have no pitching depth and Corbin is about done as is Max who is learning everyone has an expiration date

It means a prospect able to make 5 starts in the majors without imploding.  We don't have any of those.

I just hope there is a way to come back from this terrible start.  So many injuries and poor relief pitching can be overcome. Just 5 or 6 games to make up.

Seven back of a red hot Phillies team. I don't see it.

Every decision Rizzo made has been a disaster aside from signing Corbin.

Signing Rosenthal instead of Holland or Herrera.

Cutting Gott.

Signing Dozier instead of LeMathieu who is batting .339 on the year with 19 RBI.

Signing Sanchez who is 0-5 with a WHIP nearing 1.7

He should be held accountable.

Gott sucked. I'm glad he's been  successful for a month somewhere else, but he sucked. He signed 'zuki and Gomes.

Otherwise, I can't argue.

Gott was the right thing to do based on his performance. He got better because he is playing for real coaches now not the G.C. Murphy bargain basement uniform fillers

Corbin may yet prove a disaster. I don't think he is going to hold up health wise over the long haul

Holland wanted to close so he wasn't coming back here, and Herrera has been terrible this season although I would have tried to bring him back over the winter given he's better than Rosenthal. Rizzo's biggest msitake over the winter imo wasn't the pen given that with rare exceptions relievers are a complete crap shoot from year to year, it was signing Dozier instead of DJLM. I get that Rizzo's thinking was that Dozier was a 1-year placeholder for Kieboom but DJLM is much better than Dozier, who can't hit his weight and strikes out way too much. DJLM's bat would have fit much better into this lineup given his consistency and Dozier being a very streaky player. Should have given DJLM a 2nd year and paid him what the Yankees did, so what if Kieboom sits at AAA for an additional year.

DJLM historically has been horrible away from Coors.

2015-17 that wasn't the case - .281, .303, and .294 on the road those 3 years. Considering Dozier can't hit his weight I would have given DJLM a 2nd year to get him here.
