Your wife won't let you buy a new car either? At least, I'm not alone on this.

Right?  Not sure what they're thinkin'...  ;)

If you are a GM and you are getting into physical confrontations with a player you have failed at your job. Full Stop.
lol, wat

More like the manager has failed at his job. This isn't an office. This is sports. Loud, boisterous behavior is accepted and encouraged. Things will get physical.

It's not a good look for a FO person but sports is weird. It's not like our every days jobs. Let's of huge egos, much pressure, and different personality types thrust together. Wait, maybe sports are just like our regular jobs after all.

Great article by Janes, maybe the best beat writer to have covered this team.

As I thought, ownership wanted to sell and Rizzo didn't. Funny that the guy who built his reputation on trade negotiation came up short. Rizzo gambled that he could undermine ownership and it would work out for the best. In the face of this failure it will be interesting to see if there are any consequences.

Chico Harlan is the best Nationals beat writer of all-time.

If a manager gets in the face of a player, that’s one thing. If someone in the front office does, he’s either a hothead or he is feeling the need to run the clubhouse himself because he brought in the wrong guy.

I know you are joking, but I liked Harlan, very good writer. He just made that idiotic quote about not enjoying sports writing.

Yep, Rizzo's reaction to the glove slam was more impulsive and damaging to the team than the glove slam.

Chico Harlan is going to win a Pulitzer (perhaps several) before the Nats win a playoff series.

That's not what Janes said at all. Rizzo provided a potential list of what a sell off would generate. It wasn't going to be much considering Gio and Harper were garbage, and Murphy was hurt.

Quote
As of late on the Monday night before the trade deadline, the Nationals were still considering a variety of possibilities. In one of the more involved pre-deadline preparation efforts they’ve experienced under Rizzo, according to people familiar with it, the Nationals front office constructed a handful plans — including one in which they sold off key pieces, some of which were veteran relievers. Bryce Harper, of course, was also one of the names that would have departed in a total sell-off.

Rizzo was prepared to sell. His text to the Post was the same to every other media outlet. It was AFTER he had met with ownership.

Should have gone with his gut.

Yep, Rizzo's reaction to the glove slam was more impulsive and damaging to the team than the glove slam.
freaking for real? Somehow trading Shawn Kelley was damaging to the team? Are we really here people? Kelley has been this board's whipping boy for two freaking years. Yet somehow, he's the key to a bad pen

You can’t tell from the article who tried to initiate anything physical. Not crazy to assume it was Kelley. Rizzo should have disengaged sooner.

Well Rizzo did try to beat the crap out of an umpire after a game several years ago.

Better clubhouse shouting match?

1. Rizzo vs. Kelley
2. Riggeman vs. Marquis

He shouldn't have been in the dressing room in the first place. Martinez should have handled it but I guess Rizzo doesn't trust him. This isn't working.

Before the Mets game melt down Kelley had allowed one run in his previous 13 games. Since the trade he has allowed zero runs and just one hit in four appearances. We could use a guy like that in our bullpen.

Hes also pitched less than 3 innings. We need a guy who can pitch on back to back days. That's not Kelley.

Not to mention the Nats need way more than 1 player to right this ship.
