Bump

offered fair market for Buehrle, got rebuffed

instead get rid of our best pitching prospect for a guy who walks the park and has almost a 1 run differential in home and away era, and what the hell why not throw in our best catching prospect and two major league ready starters

I wanted Buehrle and I said it would come back to haunt us.

But I'd rather have Gonzalez then Peacock and would definitely rather have him than Milone.  Norris wasn't going to play here.  Cole is the only one who COULD have a higher ceiling than Gio.

Did we overpay?  Yeah, but did our major league team get better?  Yeah.

Rizzo doesn't understand you need some solid Triple AAA pitchers to have to draw from the deck in order to have a solid foundation. Peacock and Milone were both solid players to call up on in case of injuries to the rotation or inning limits. Now all we have is AAAA garbage.

Right now, Gorzelanny, Stammen, and Maya would be the first three.  Solis, Rosenbaum, and maybe Demny should be ready by the end of this year.  Purke, Meyer, and possibly Ray could be ready by mid-end 2013.  The depth is hurt for now, but that is a small price to pay to have a dominant top 3.

Also, there are six starters right now, so one of Lannan or Detwiler could be the long man or be traded for depth.

Solis blew out his arm. He's done for the year. Not confirmed yet, but it will be soon.

Gonzalez will be Bartolo Colon 2.0. Mark my words.

Nope.  Not even close to similar situations.

Peacock (#3), Cole (#4) and Norris (#9) all rank among the Nationals' top ten prospects, according to Baseball America's latest rankings. Peacock emerged as "one of the most exciting power arms in the high minors" this year, BA reports. The 23-year-old posted a 2.39 ERA with 10.9 K/9 and 2.9 BB/9 in the upper minors before getting called up to the Nationals and appearing in three games.

I don't think I'd be shocked if Peackock has a better era in the majors than Gio next year

And a fairly healthy farm system to fill in behind them plus a full staff, a real GM, and real owners (though there are some that would argue that last point).

we just 3 of our top 10, and the overslot players who fall don't exist anymore to back fill

It's still a pretty healthy system.  We'll see how they re-stock, but the system is still pretty decent.

Pretty sure he'll have TJ. Went to see Yocum and the was the last news. Usually a good result is released

A lot depends on if Purke can get healthy, if he can then he slots in where cole left. Norris is a big loss, but only as a trade chip. We'll see how Milone and Peacock effect us- we'll probably know when Wang and Strass get shut down, but that's only a one year thing. If anyone wanted to trade for a CF, that's not happening

True, but this is the Nats.  They don't release any news unless you push them for it.  I hope he's OK.  He was pretty impressive to me in the couple of times I have seen him.

Cole, Peacock and Norris all potentially could see all star games in the future. The reason Minaya made the trade is because he really wanted the Expos to contend in the playoffs at that very moment and not think about the detriment it had on the future.

I'm familiar with what happened in the Colon trade.  It's unlikely they ALL will turn into all-stars.  One might, perhaps two.  Very unlikely all of them.  That was the big thing in the Colon trade, not to mention the state of the franchise and farm system.

Don't worry, no matter who the GM is he will always serve as insulation.
