Barraclough's ERA is 2.7 for one reason. The other 4ish runs were inherited runners he allowed to score.
Yea. That's the point. He didnt get them there to start with

I mean maybe give him credit for half of those runs. Coming in with bases loaded and no outs  isn’t particularly easy. The run expectancy tables say 2.3 runs should score.

How do the Lerners go about selecting a new President/GM without Rizzo to consult with?  That's a question that's always bothered me, how does an owner go about replacing his top guy, when the owner himself doesn't have any particular expertise or experience.

Leonsis hired a consulting firm to find a new GM.

The Nat are owned by billionaires. They do not have a cash flow problem

The deferred money gets over analyzed in the media. It means nothing. The players know the exact real value of the offers and weigh them against other offers. The Nats signed Corbin and Scherzer to huge contracts, you don't necessarily want to outbid the league on every player all the time.

Shouldn’t you be rooting for wherever dusty is managing- surely such an all time great has another job by now

I’ve given up on arguing for Dusty (it’s been way too long) and tzinc is for some reason disturbingly obsessed, but the argument, “if Dusty is so good, why doesn’t he have another job?,” seems kinda specious in a universe where Ron Gardenhire has a major league job.

Deferred money is costing this team players

Maybe, maybe not

But I wouldn't put much faith in what Harper says. The reality is he wanted to beat $325. He wanted to beat Stanton. And I ain't trashing him for it.

But he is generic and always wants to say what he thinks he should.

A move away from Rizzo is overdue.

They need a fresh set of eyes making decisions. Rizzo is just McPhee and Grunfeld all over again.

So in what year is Rizzo going to identify competent bullpen personnel? 2026?

Harper has never BSed and he is not bashing the NATS ... he met with Lerner and they made it clear they wanted him ... see he didn't know if they did want him .. any offer that was in the ball park and he would resign with this team ... typical NATS rather than just not make an offer  they offered a fake offer just like not trading him last year just like dumping the reliever who they suspected talked to the media lol... that offer was an insult ...

Harper is not dumb he realized that was a FAKE offer he said that offer was a we are going in another direction offer AFTER he was snubbed by the team he was excited to return to then his SECOND option was to play for whoever gave him the most money over the LONGEST Time Frame because he didn't want a short term deal he wanted a stable long career with one team which is what he wanted with the NATS but they f@#$ed him

come on folks - all long time Nats fans know how Rizzo works
1) Sotos playing good (1 season can be an illusion) he can replace Harper
2) Robles (no MLB experience) can replace Soto
3) We don't need Harper lets get Corbin etc

he always does barely enough we can go with 2 legit starters we can get by with an ok bullpen we can get by with ok catchers anyone can manage this team it's so loaded

Harper would have taken 300 million for 10 years if the money had not been differed he was excited to be a NAT for life ... looking at how things turned out I'd say his odds of winning rings is better in PHIL this offseason they went out and got talent Trout is in the wings ... Phillies could be good for a long long time ...

Rizzo is nothing like Grunfeld. Not to mention McPhee was nothing like Grunfeld. Rizzo is a good GM. I’m also of the opinion that Rizzo is hamstrung by the owners evidenced by him trying to deal Harper away last year only to get turned down by the Lerners.

See it as you wish. The common denominator is they are/were long time GMs who had one area (or more) that they could not or do not comprehend.

McPhee it was defensemen

Grunfeld bad contracts and dumping valuable assets

Rizzo bullpen and in the past some non-contact bats that couldn’t make contact in the clutch and postseason.

Ernie is in a class of his own, come on. He had 0 redeeming qualities as a GM and simply lucked in Gilbert Arenas being awesome for a couple years (but Ernie messed that up, too) and then getting John Wall. Guy is in the HOF of terrible GMs across all sports and the fact that Ted let him hang around so long is a huge black mark for Leonsis. Ted is lucky the Caps finally did the damn thing.

Rizzo has his blind spots and failures as a GM but he's above-average in his own sport and generally does a good job every year.

Best GM the Bullets had in 40 years. Let that sink in. Not sure you can blame him for the Gilbert fiasco. Guy had a career ending knee injury. He also signed him as a free agent.  Got Caron Butler for Kwame Brown. There are many worse GMs. He just shouldn’t have been kept around so long.

He had a good run with the Bucks and Knicks too.   Of course, gettin' Ewing helps.
He was never Billy King awful. Just not in the top group. Time to move on.

He had decent runs with the Knicks and Bucks.   Of course, having Ewing on your team helps.    I still think Ted had a man crush on Grunfeld from his HS (Ernie's) days in Queens, college at TN, player with the Knicks, GM with the Knicks, etc.
