The letter was a shot at Rizzo, saying that we're over the cap and expect better results. The idea that ownership wanted to spend more and the GM said no makes zero sense.
Seems like a shot at the players and manager.
The GM didn't want to spend more. He didn't want to expend the prospects necessary to improve the team because he knew that coming back from that far back in two months is virtually impossible.
All we heard up to the deadline was that teams were checking in on players. I will freaking guarantee that Rizzo had deals lined up or at least in the works, but had to check with ownership. They said no.
Again, if Rizzo believed in this team, he would have made a deal. It wasn't like there weren't players to be had. He simply didn't think it was worth it.
you're the one saying it proves what the Lerners thought before the deadline, it was issued after. Do you expect them to put out a pr release saying they had wanted to sell? All it shows is that they had a pr guy draft a letter
When does ownership ever do anything like this? That's my point. They didn't want to sell and they wanted to keep fans interested to keep ticket sales going. That's it.
