More the General tenor of people referring to Rizzo as subject to the owners’ whims, specifically Angelos who seems to think a good owners just lefts a gm spend what they want long term finances be damned

I've never thought it odd...what I do find odd is when Rizzo tells people that something was his decision...though he seems to do that less frequently...

Information crediting Rizzo for everything that goes well and distancing him from every mistake seems to leak from the front office

There is a difference between an owner involved in major decisions and an owner meddling and trying to run the baseball operation.  Just to be clear, I'm saying the Lerners don't meddle, Snyder does. Angelos too.

Nobody knows for sure. But whether to resign Baker should have been the GMS call

Mark Lerner has stated publicly that the family makes every major decision...

When he pays for the ingredients, he should have say on what they buy.

The amount of anonymously sourced articles in 2017 through early this year that painted a "everything good was Rizzo, everything bad was the Lerners" was crazy. As a Rizzo fan, I was really surprised the Lerners retained him after that nonstop drumbeat. That tells me they really don't give a crap about all the noise and only care about results and Rizzo has done a good job taking the worst franchise in baseball and built a club that is in a really position. One bad year doesn't change fact that for over half a decade the Nats have had rosters thought to be World Series contenders and look to be set up for success for the foreseeable future.

And before screams about the first round, Rizzo and the Lerners can't hit the ball for the players in October.

I would think an owner should give the GM a budget and for the most part the GM should spend that money to make the decisions on who to sign. If I was an owner I would want all major signings to go before me first and I would want justification for it before signing off on it.
The GM should hire and fire the manager but have to justify before the owner first, just as Bobby Bethard had to go before Jack Kent Cooke before signing Joe Gibbs. Both Gibbs and Bethard went before Cooke and he asked questions before signing off on it.
Supposedly the Chris Davis signing in Baltimore was an Angelos decision.

That is how it should be.

Filling out the Spring Training roster with some bodies? Your call, GM. Multi-year, multi-million dollar contracts? That need to go before the ownership.

Most large corporations and associations have CEOs, who run day to do day but have to get large decisions signed off on by ownership or a Board of Directors.

No plan, the Nats are negotiating with one team to sell and another to buy, indecisive at a critical point for the future of the team. Why would another GM deal with the Nats?

dave should be fired at the end of the season...unless this team "turns it around". Anyone expect that?

Nope. But the bigger issue is Rizzo, more and more it seems like he's at odds with ownership. I trust Rizzo over Mark Lerner but constant discord is not good.

Wouldn't that mean the bigger issue is ownership?

Sure, but you might as well fire Rizzo too at that point. if he's pushed out Davey, Williams, Dusty, and now Davey for falling short, eventually the problem starts looking like it might originate higher on the org chart

Except, we don't know who wanted who fired. Was it Rizzo's call to let Dusty go, or ownership's?

It's been widely reported that the Lerners fired Dusty, over Rizzo objections.

All I know is Philly got Ramos for nothing. Ramos with a strained hammy is better  than any catcher we have

Klentak said he doesn't expect much from Ramos until Sept 1. A month of Ramos might help the Phillies. Not likely to help the Nats.

He also went into the season with four starting pitchers.
