My wife is getting her M.Div. so I'll ask.

Or, you could ask Potomac Cannons because according to his "blog" he's also seeking ordainment.

lol

Just throwing this out there -

I do not want Loney or Kotchman at 1B.  Do. Not. Want.

Why not Loney?  Last year was a dip but prior to that the splits show that he's a much better hitter away from LA.  He's also a good defensive player.  If it takes just a little to get him from LA then it's not a bad idea for a year or two even if it's a platoon.

I don't want to trade anything for Loney when we can just sign Lee for a year or try to pursuade LaRoche to a 2 year deal.

what happened to Kotchman, btw?  Was he overrated to begin with?  I'd sign him to a minor league deal in a heartbeat (if possible).

His bat is not big enough (insert Wang joke here).

Unless he dramatically improves, his defense is not good enough to overcome the lack of offense he would bring.  It's just not.  LaRoche would come closer.

I could see Rizzo sending a bullpen arm to LA for him, though.

If we can land one of those two then they're obviously to be preferred.

The only offer that has been confirmed to be three years is the Orioles. There is no knowledge that any other team has an offer on the table although LaRoche has been linked to both the Nationals and Padres. The Nationals might have plans beyond our knowledge or faith in minor leaguers.

I could see Rizzo sending a bullpen arm to LA for him, though.

Take a look at Loney's splits even last year.  .785 OPS and .340 wOBA against RHP.  He didn't hit LHP at all.  Go back through his first 3-4 years and you usually get those kinds of splits  (LHP/RHP) but you get a bump away from LA.  That's not nearly as bad a bat as the home park made it look.

Home/Away OPS and wOBA for Loney (06 is way too small a sample size):

07 -- .866/.939 OPS and .374/.397 wOBA
08 -- .735/.815 OPS and .320/.350 wOBA
09 -- .640/.859 OPS and .282/.375 wOBA
10 -- .717/.729 OPS and .311/.320 wOBA

I'm going to guess 2010 was the aberration and that Loney is a much better hitter away from LA and against RHP.  He's a good platoon guy/defensive replacement to have around.  There should be no problem running him out there for 400 PAs during a season.

That said, I'd obviously prefer LaRoche/Lee at 1B.

A Loney/Morse 1B platoon wouldn't be too bad, I suppose.  But they could just sign Branyan or Hawpe and could have had Overbay if they wanted a platoon.  No need to trade anyone.

Also, using Morse at 1B leaves us with no plan B if Bernadina flops.  I'm not at all comfortable with that.

Should I not be alarmed by Laroche's 172 strike outs last season?

Strike outs only count if they come from Adam Dunn.

Why would Atlanta take Troy Glaus over LaRoche?
