For a win it has to be the shortest. No, there's probably a lot worse actually.

Good win. I guess the Phillies will get to clench in Nats Park unless we manage a sweep. Ugh.

Definitely not the shortest ever, certainly in the running for this season though.

Not sure that counts, on page 2 Chief says "Livo discussion moved to Livo thread."

take that atlanta

not that i want the phillies atop the division

hate the fish

i like the mets, oddly.  guess i just feel bad for them

this division is far weaker than it used to be... should be ours for the picking in a few years

From today's AP report:

Quote
WASHINGTON -- Take away the walks, and maybe the Atlanta Braves throw a shutout. Or get just one hit when there are a couple of men on base, and the Braves almost certainly win.

Instead, Atlanta is heading home for the final week of the season spinning its wheels, still in the wild card picture but not playing anything close to playoff baseball in Bobby Cox's managerial homestretch.

The Braves lost 4-2 to the last-place Washington Nationals on Sunday in a game in which every run allowed by the Atlanta pitching staff reached base with a free pass -- and in which the Cox's team went 0 for 5 with two bags occupied.

"We've got to turn the intensity up," catcher Brian McCann said. "And we've got to make every at-bat count. We've got six games to make this thing happen, and we'll see what we're made of."

The Braves have lost five of six, including two of three to the Nationals. They lost the season series 10-8 to Washington, a team that is 22 games below .500.

This was a great day at the ballpark: got autographs from burnett, bally, stammen, detwiler and storen, had great seats in 116, weather was perfect, and the nats won capping it off with a great outing by storen. Also, I caught a shirt, found ourselves sitting next to zimm at a stoplight, and had john lannan buzz past us on s. Cap street.  If you have kids it's worth your time to loop around by the player lot then go up s. Cap st to get out of the area

Is that how you got so many autos?  From the parking lot?

I had a good day too.  Got Storen autograph.   Met up with some friends on the upper deck.  NATS WIN!

so who wants to comment on Dunn's fielding today and turn this into a 25 page thread?  :)

Cal, we parked in the new garage under the office building next to the metro station, it was $25 and a short walk to the stadium.  When we left after the game we couldn't make a left towards Maine Ave, so we turned right, turned right to head down to the yards, and took the right turn between the stadium and the river, then right onto S. Capital to head to 395.  As you drive past the stadium you'll see the player's lot on the right, depending on how you time it, you'll catch some of the players leaving.  My kids were jumping out of their seat and waving at Ryan but he didn't see them (tinted windows in our mini-van) and I told my wife to put down the camera.  After he drove off John Lannan in a brand new Land Rover came zipping by.

We took this route back in July after a Friday night fireworks game and saw a whole bunch of players leaving as well (Miguel Batista was sitting next to us).

Fall, time to get off my ass and get some crap done around the house.  Spent much of the day working on my cars, and doing maintenance on my aquariums.  Charlie and Dave keeping me company, but no time for posting.

i'm not sure how much of this they showed on TV, but the Bobby Cox tribute was pretty nice.  They showed a career retrospective, presented him with a flag that flew over the capital in his honor, then had the U.S. Navy Band come out and play for him.  Kasten, Ted Lerner and Rizzo were seated with him, along with Riggleman.

Phillies already clinched at least a tie.  No reason for them to think Atlanta won't lose at least 1 of the last 6.

But wouldn't it be great if they did? I mean, nothing would be better than a playoff for first, which the Braves win, and then Philly has to settle for the wildcard, which they lose in the first round...

Sigh. I can dream.
