I understand that, but the way I see it you want your best fielders at each position.  If Espinosa would be a better fielding SS than Desmond, they should switch, regardless of whether that would mean the production levels were skewed.Exactly my point.
I want Espinosa at SS because he has the potential to be a gold glove SS. Only the Nats are dumb enough to move a Gold Glove caliber SS so they can leave SS who is on pace for the most errors of any player since the Strike

This is one rule they should change to speed up the games. On an IBB they should allow 1 pitch then give him the base.

Nah, I always disagree with people that say that.

Three reasons...

1. Always potential for a wild pitch on the IBB
2. Four throws is four throws on the arm, regardless of how hard they are thrown
3 The IBB takes less than 1:30 to complete. In the grand scheme of things, it's not going to save much time.

There's also potential for a hit on the IBB (see the Orioles)

Remember when one of the Blo's player got a hit on an intentional ball that didn't get far enough off the plate? It's rare, but it does happen.

They shouldn't IMO.  An IBB is just a deliberate walk in a mechanical sense, right?  If someone manages to hit the ball during an IBB, it doesn't violate any rules, and if they strike out that's cool too.  I like that. Then, um, trade him and forget about it.  Desmond could actually fetch some nice pieces in return, unlike most of the players we have to trade.  Failing that, it never hurts to have a good backup MI.
How often has there been a WP or a batter swinging at it. Thats all I'm saying. They are always looking at ways to speed the game up. This seems like a logical place to look... IMO.

An IBB shouldn't be codified into the game's rules.  That is the way I feel about it.  And IBBs do not occur that frequently.  A much better way to shave off time would be to institute a between-pitch time limit and a change in the culture that allows hitters to take a billion years to get set up.

Miguel Cabrera did it against the Orioles a few years back

How was it a steal?  Who else wanted him?

There's nothing wrong with the pace of a baseball game.

Average NFL/NCAA game runs longer than MLB game.

Between pitch limit won't change but the billion years thing I agree with!

He always owns the Braves. It goes back to his stellar 1997 NLCS performance of 15 strikeouts (with a *little* help from Eric Gregg).

Ha. There was nothing 'little' about Gregg, or the strike zone he called for Livo.

Livan is 6-16 5.09ERA lifetime vs Atlanta

A veteran, back end of the Rotation starter, WS winning, able to hit, Former All- Star , wanting to play for the Nats, willing to teach our young guys the art of pitching seems like a steal to me for 1 million.

How front offices see it:
"veteran" = 40+ year old
"back end of the Rotation starter" = bad pitcher.
"WS winning" = in 1997
"able to hit" = for a pitcher
"Former All-Star" = enough said
"wanting to play for the Nats" = a good thing, but only for the Nats
"willing to teach our young guys the art of pitching" = looking for a job as a pitching coach.

I have liked a lot of the moves Rizzo made, but signing Livo for $1 million was a low-risk, low-reward move and definitely not a "steal" since no other teams really wanted or needed him.

I've been so busy lately. I miss being able to post in here during the game. You guys/gals (except for a few exceptions) are so awesome to talk to.

Not too many women come in to the game thread.

He's 3-7 at Turner Field with a 5.09 ERA and 1.633 WHIP
I'm truly stunned personally. Great find though

Ok. Then we got a steal when we signed D Cab. That's my comparison.

Not all moves have to be genius or terrible... some are just organizational, like this one (I can't help but think of Livo as an "organizational arm" at this point, even if he's not in the minors, because he just feels like part of the Nats system).
