And it's not like he never touched a baseball during that period, either--he had workouts and (presumably) kept in shape throughout that period, and if he didn't I don't see how he has anyone but himself to blame.
I wouldn't be so sure about that. Boras apparently tells his clients to shut it down after their seasons are over until they get signed. The last thing you'd want to do is tweak something during a workout and fail a physical after getting signed.
