Game Preview:

James (10-3, 3.33 ERA) hasn't lost since Aug. 4, when he gave up four runs in 5 1-3 innings against Cincinnati, and has a 1.73 ERA in his last eight starts. He is one of just two Atlanta starters with an ERA below 4.40.

''It's easy to say Tom Glavine ,'' Atlanta manager Cox said when asked to compare the rookie to a left-hander who helped anchor one of baseball's best rotations from 1991-2002. ''(James is) probably not as smooth and deliberate as Tom, but he's more violent. Both are deceptive. He can turn it up.''

James gave up five hits while striking out seven in seven scoreless innings of a 4-1 win over Philadelphia on Thursday. The left-hander is 1-0 with a 3.00 ERA in two starts against the Nationals.

Beltran Perez (0-0, 1.59 ERA) will be making his first start for the Nationals after five relief appearances. The rookie right-hander has given up five hits and walked four in 5 2-3 innings. This will be his first game against the Braves.
