Alright I'm transferring my Lock to my friends server, Emerald Dream, horde. Gonna see how that goes. Not really trying to transfer / faction. To expensive.

Pretty sure he always speaks Dwarvish.

Get out of here, you!

I doubt if I get on anytime soon.  Finishing some school work and I might just crash after.

Manually installed the beta of the new version of Auctioneer, thank god.  I let it run a scan of the auction house when I left for work, so if you tried to /w me and I didn't respond, that's why.

So let's just say hypothetically - and this is a BIG if - if I were considering trying out WoW, does the free 10-day trial they're always offering include the original game and both expansions so far?  Or do you have to buy both expansions along with the original game to get "up to date" with the WoW community?

If you played the 10 day trial, you would have everything available to you except for the classes, races, and zones. You would have all the skills and game updates they came out with for the patches. You wouldn't be able to trade. You would only be able to make a guy and just play like anyone else for the trial.

If you wanted to try out the expansions, you would need to buy them. And thats just for races, classes, zones, bgs, and instances.

Say you get to 60. You can then try the Burning Crusade trial. Same with 68-70 for Wrath.

I recommend atleast trying it. You and Linty should. :stir:

The trial is the original game aka "Vanilla".  It wouldn't be an issue because there's no way you'd be getting to a high enough level in 10 days anyway.

All players are one the same version of WoW.  The expansions just give you the extra levels and new areas.  Vanilla lets you get to lvl 60 and the original areas of the game.  The Burning Crusade (BC) lets you get to 70 and you can go to Outland.  The Wrath of the Lich King lets you get to 80 and go to Northrend.

The best deal is to get the "Battle Chest" which includes vanilla and BC for $30, and you would need WotLK for another $30.  You wouldn't need to get the expansions until you were a high enough level to get to those areas though, you'd still have the same game engine as everyone else.

Also, once you download the game and get patched up to the latest version, when you go to upgrade with the expansions, you can just log on to your battle.net account, buy it right there, and log into the game.  The new areas / new level cap will be available right away.  You don't have to download a whole new game and re-install everything again.

Linty, if you decide to try it, I *think* the base installer is still old for the Mac and is PPC, so if you have an intel based Mac, you'd need to make sure you had Rosetta installed from Apple so you can run the old PPC based app.  Once it patches and updates though, it is a universal binary (runs on Intel and PPC natively).

So what happens if you get into the "vanilla" game and then go buy the new expansion in December...  does that let you level up to 80+ and just prevent you from going to the other two areas you didn't buy, or is it like "+10 levels" for each expansion regardless of which ones you buy?  I honestly doubt I would ever get that far anyway, so if simply playing the vanilla game alone were possible that would probably be good enough for me.  Though I guess it would suck to be left out when everyone is traveling to the new areas.

They are progressive updates.  You have to have BC in order to upgrade to WotLK, and I'm assuming the same thing will be true for Cataclysm.

Yeah that could be a deal-breaker.  I really don't see myself paying $100 to buy all the expansions for a game that already has a monthly sub, and playing the vanilla game when everyone is hanging out in the new areas sounds like a snoozefest.

Its actually not all that bad. You will always see atleast 5 people your level with another 20 ish around you. People are always making alts too. As for finding groups you will always get into one for instances thanksS to the lfg tool.

You can always just do the trial for free to see if you even like the game.  It's not like you are going to get to 60 in a matter of days.  That's a LOT of play time.  And the trek from 60 to 70 and 70 to 80 take even longer.  I played on RaF which is 3x faster leveling from 1-60 and it still took a lot of hours of game play.

Also, it's a 14 day trial, not 10 day.

Correct. Its 10 day for the expansions*.

60 levels can take up to ~1-2 months depending on your progress. 60-70 can take another 1-2 weeks. 70-80 2-3weeks. It's along process but IMO the first time is always the best. If you sign up, the first month is free, then you start paying.

I agree with Nathan, though, you should at least try the trial if you were even considering.

I'll probably get around to it.  Spent all of last week playing the crap out of XCOM, and now I'm playing through HL2 again.  Might give Mass Effect 2 another whirl as well.  Stupid Steam and their excellent sales.

You should have started playing 2 weeks ago.  You missed the entire Brewfest where you get to drink the finest from the breweries of Azeroth, play drinking games, ram racing, hallucinate Pink Elekks, and throw your drinking mug at people.

It's ok though, next week starts Hallows End so at least you can go trick or treating at the inns and get candy like gnerds.
