I think I'll be following Nebraska closely this year so I can get a feel for the soon to be 12th Big 10 team. Good luck this year DPM

thanks.  I'm excited.  August is gonna be a loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong month.  That Boise/Va Tech matchup in week one should be a doozie.

I would love to see Nebraska take a big 12 title on their way out. UT is a prime example of what's wrong with college sports

My dream scenario: Beat Texas on October 16.  I mean, destroy and annihiliate in the worst say.  Beat OU in the Big 12 title game.  Play Ohio St. or Iowa or some other Big 10 team for the national title.  That's what Nebraska fans are hoping for this year.

I would enjoy this very much, although I'd rather see Iowa win the Big 10 (lesser of two evils) than those arrogant Buckeye Bastards. I'm hearing from a lot of my friends who are diehard Hoosier Football fans that it's bowl game or bust this year. Our defense will be improved, especially our DT's which was our biggest problem last year since everyone and their mother ran all over us. Hell I think teams converted almost 50% of their 3rd down attempts on us, ouch. I'm still on the fence about season tickets but definitely will be going to a lot of games.

Solid insight UMD.  You covered all the basics.  Maryland has a lot of talent at the skilled positions, it's just their o-line is so bad and I don't know if they have the personnel for their defensive scheme.  Also injuries to the tight end and linebacker positions will limit their depth.

On Terrapins Rising, a solid show, Ralph hasn't made any excuses about last year.  He has however pointed out that his squad lost 5 games by one score.  They lost 5 games by 17 points total.  Two others by 10, 11 points.  It's a double-edged sword though ... good teams find ways to win those type of games (we know all about this with the nats) ... and Maryland wasn't very good.

We'll see what type of character this team has after last year's embarrassment.  Torrey Smith is the best receiver in the league and has a tremendous attitude.  If everyone could play like him, the Terps would be fine.  Da'Rel Scott could rank as a top 3 back in the league (behind Ryan Williams of VT, of course), but it's a head thing with him.  Good kid, but his fumbling problems last year really killed his confidence.  I like from what I have heard about Jamarr Robinson and his speed made up for the crappy o-line last year.  Hopefully he has a breakout year.  I think the defense will be better, with AW and Moten having big senior years.  I haven't heard anything about Tate being out, I think he's fine.  Perez and Francis will have good years too.  And Chism is returning from injury.

As for season opener, Navy scares me.  Not just because Maryland isn't that great, but Navy is very good.  Navy is probably my "2nd" team after Maryland and you can spend the whole offseason preparing for this game and Midshipmen's offense, but it's still tough to stop.  MD got away with a miraculous victory against Navy last time out, thank you Lance Ball, but to Navy this game is so huge (not saying to Maryland it's chicken crap or anything).  If the Terps could somehow beat (aka "upset") Navy, a 3-1 start heading into ACC play would be welcome.

Also expect to see gold jerseys at some point this year:

(not sure how I feel about those btw)

I think best case the Terps get 5 wins.

No depth anywhere other than WR, no o-line, no exactly great playcalling or coaching, just a team with some real good talent in some places that is banking on young players playing key roles.

Also, if the team gets off to a terrible start - 1-4, 2-5, etc, then I think they should take Jamarr out and go with O'Brien or one of the other young QBs.

At least I'll get heartbroken early when Bama pounds PSU; of course it seems like early season losses affect the standings less.

i think if they can somehow knock off navy, they could probably win 3 acc games giving them 6 total wins.  it's a longshot though.

what do you think about the young QBs?  i'm pretty high on robinson and i think the team really likes him.

o'brien vs. brown vs. burns vs. smith.

Especially non-conference ones.  If you get pounded by Wisconsin or  Ohio St. it could knock you out of the conference race.  If you get pounded by Bama, you might not get to the National Title, but you still have the Rose Bowl to shoot for and as I understand it, that's a big deal in the Big 10.

not too cised about robinson, he should be fine but he's obviously not the future.

i like o'brien a lot, i think the team does too. i bet he gets snaps this year

yeah i like o'brien a bit more than brown.  i tihnk burns could be decent.

yeah i know robinson isn't the future, but it sounds like he's finally gotten the offense down and with his athleticism, he'll be able to make more plays than CT.

he'll be using his legs pretty much every passing play this year. if i'm franklin i revolve my passing game around getting JR moving around in the pocket

I'm pretty much expecting a loss against Alabama being on the road breaking in a new QB. But I think this year might set up for a MNC run in 2011 and 2012 when we have good experience at QB.

Next year Beaver Stadium will put the hurt on. At least I have tickets to FedEx :az:

They'll lose the opener to VT.  Other than that I think they'll run the board and get a BCS at large bid.
