15 brutal innings of heat, ended finally with a Marcus Jones RBI single of the base of the wall in left.

4:48.

3-2 win.

The mosquitos outnumbered the fans by the final hit....

Jenkins struggled a bit in the 4-3 loss.  Crane and Holland ran into some troubles too, in the 15 inning game.

FOR STARTERS: In the 8-game win streak, Lake Monster starting pitchers have allowed just 5 ER on 21 hits over 39.1 innings (1.14 ERA) ... Vermont pitchers have also not allowed more than 7 hits during any of the 8 games during the win streak

Gave up 6 in the loss that snapped the streak, and 11 over 15 innings in the win over the Crosscutters.

No home radio for the 6 game trip.

Rob - no summaries of games lately?  :icon_question: I was checking this thread to get caught up before my trip.  I'm leaving for Vermont Saturday and will be at Monday's game - can't wait to see the baby Nats!  And pick up what I'm sure will be a very cool Lake Monsters t-shirt!  :mg:

Rob or anyone else who has seen D. Freitas play can you give us your thoughts?

David can hit.  He can throw. He's a good catcher.  He's a good ballplayer.  And he now owns the Expos/Lake Monsters record for consecutive games with a base hit at 19!

Sorry for the absence!  I've recently changed jobs, and now work full time with the radio stations that air the Monsters and UVM, doing afternoon drive on one of their music stations (www.star929.com, 4-7p).  It's been a tad hectic!

Enjoy the 6-5 win highlights over Lowell tonight.  Ronnie LaBrie is playing well, with another triple.  Wilfri Pena goes yard in the  7th to grab the win (My highlight is off... it was 5-4, and Wilfri made it 6-5 Monsters.. despite my blunder).

Wade Moore, Chad Mozingo, Conner Rowe, Justin Miller, and Kevin Keys catch EV-ER-Y-THING hit to the outfield.  It's sheer madness, and Moore is just unreal.  He's made probably 7 diving catches this year, and all of them were legit.  He makes gappers disappear with a routine ease in the outfield.  Same with Mozingo who can go to either gap in center with ease.  Marcus Jones is a terrific outfielder and I hope he's playing well in the SALLY.

We had a Yankee scout shadowing all 6 games of last weeks homestand.  He's assigned specifically to the Nats system.  He said that this team is one of the most business-like, baseball sound teams he's seen, and it's not far off from the rest of the system.  From a yankee scout, I felt that was high praise considering the way they conduct business.  If you knew how much I loathe the Yankees, you would realize how hard it was for me to type that.  lol

Congrats Freitas on the record! and Thanks Rob appreciate you providing us with your insight. D. Norris, S. Leon, and A. Nieto I believe have all made stops through Vermont if you have time I'd like to know how Freitas skills compare to some of our other Catching prospects in the minors.

I saw Sandy last year, and as catchers they're comparable I think.  David DHs a lot, because of Leonida being here.  But I know Freitas has thrown out quite a few base stealers this year.  As a hitter, Sandy struggled last year until the final 2-3 weeks of the season really.  David clearly has had no such problems at the plate.  He's damn near batting .400

Rob, are you still doing the Monsters games?

Thanks for coming back and giving us the update.  I love the area up there and can't wait to get back up again and take in a game.

Yes, I am still calling the games, and loving it this season (Tonight's DEBACLE notwithstanding).

First, the good: David Freitas has a 20 game hit streak.  A 7th inning double extended it, and as far back as records go, the longest in NYP League history is 20, by Luis Soto of the Spinners in '05.  The league has been around since 1939, so I find it hard to believe that 20 is the history mark, but.... that's all we've been able to dig up, and Paul and Bruce are the best in the NYP when it comes finding out things.  They know records no one has business knowing, more-so about Vermont, but still.... our press box is hands down the best in the league for info.

The bad: Our pitchers tonight.  14 walks, tying a Vermont record.  9 wild pitches.  1 HB.  Blech.

The ugly: Wade Moore ejected in the 3rd arguing balls and strikes.  Matt Swynenberg getting ejected in the bottom of the 4th, with Vermont batting, from the dugout.  After skipper Jeff Garber came down the 3rd base line to back Swyn off, he was shown the gate.

Sooooo, 1:05 start tomorrow.  lol

Freitas makes it 21 straight, which is a NYP League record, near as we can find.  In '05, Luis Soto of Lowell hit in 20 straight.... The league goes back to '39 so there's a GOOD chance 21 is NOT the record, but like I said... near as we can find. lol

Another abysmal pitching outing today.  Gagged up 5-0 and 8-3 leads, to lose 10-8.  The lineup is producing runs, and getting hits and they just cannot make it stick.

Yeah, it's gonna be a very divisive thing.  One of the proposals reported in the Freep is an additional tax on hotel rooms.... and lets just say more taxes is never going to go over well in this day and age.

There is no "Everybody leaves the room happy" solution to a problem like this.

I could see the Nats affiliate trying to jump to a nearby indy league stadium like York, PA or So. MD., which I would like in some ways, but feel pretty sad about in several other ways.

Everybody loves room taxes, since it's the "other guy", the outsider, who pays.  Sort of like speed cameras in DC to catch Md and Va commuters.

.... and then the division lead was down to just .5

One dreadful inning dooms them every game.
