If Lincecum is hurt, I wonder if he's mentioned it to the Giants medical staff?

Desmond should take off on the first pitch.

Can anybody use "sui generis" in a sentence? I am trying to figure out if it is acceptable to say "[noun] is sui generis" or if it should be "[noun] is a sui generis example of [category]"

In the sphere of young pitching, Stephen Strasburg is sui generis extraordinaire.

Houston-Nat:  The proper use is "(noun) is sui generis."  You should NEVER write it as (noun) is a sui generis example of blah blah blah."  The term is adjectival, not a noun itself.

I guarantee you that my advice is correct.  Aside from typos, I *never* make usage errors.

I want to see how Luis responds after such a long half inning. Batting last really helps.

No problem; just try to ignore the fact that both of your possible usages were actually adjectival ones, so the explanatory distinction I drew is technically nonsensical.  Just realized that...oops!

Anyway, I promise you that the usage rule is correct.

Rob, they don't ice their arms in Japan.

Crap, that's how he responds.

Actually, solo homers are fine. Just keep going after them.

Can't really blame Atilano for that, really.  No idea how Uribe managed to golf that pitch into fair territory, much less out of the park.  Shades of Vlad Guerrero.
