This game is to take the series and for second place in the division. We should rest Desmond and Hammer tomorrow, not today.

Agreed. These division games matter a whole heck of a lot more than games against Colorado.

Why is Riggleman resting players so frequently? Teams like Phillie have several position guys playing almost every game. Desmond seems like he gets a game or two off a week. Is this simply a move to spread playing time around and pander to some of the suckier aging vets (Guzman, Taveras)?

Riggleman rested Desmond, Willingham, and Pudge on Saturday. Does he really need to rest them again?
Willingham started on Saturday.

Zim and Dunn are probably due a day off sometime during the Colorado series.

I'm sure Riggs quote would say this "You can't sit Guzzy, not when he hits righties so well. He's such a big part of our offense".

That's usually the stock quote he goes with when asked about why he plays Guzman.

Willingham didn't start last Wednesday. Does Hammer really need an off-day every week?

Yes. We need to keep his back healthy at all cost.

Stammen career vs. Mets:
1-2, 4.67 ERA in 17.1 IP

he did pretty well against them in Spring Training
