Out the names of the people who jinx no-hitters. Make sure you ban them for their next offenses.

Yeah, because Pelfrey and Niese are going to last this long for you guys.

What the crap is the pink backpack?

I believe Detwiler was the first spotted wearing it at RFK but rookies usually wear it when going out to warm up. Kind of a rookie hazing thing. (if you didn't know)

A banal way to haze rookies.

So,... You personally would rather have Livan Hernandez over a 26, and 23 year old pitchers who show promise?

This year, yes. Because the Nats have a better chance at the postseason than the Mets do, every team has a winning streak, and the Mets blew theirs early. The crapass outfield and guys that will run out of gas like Mejia and Niese will cause the mets to fold like a house of cards. The Nats haven't even called in their minor league reinforcements yet.

Yes. Livans been in the majors for this long and has been serviceable. Pelfrey has been up and down so far in his career. Besides, we have 4-5 more pitchers coming by June, you have.. what? If Livan goes back to this career self, it'll still be better with what we have coming. If you guys lose Pelfrey's hot streak, what do you have?

Go back and look at the Minor League Thread where I posted Minaya's first round picks for the Expos. Holy crap he's dumb.

Livan is no way shape or form serviceable for a team that wants to compete. He's a career 96 ERA+ but hasnt pitched near that in 5 years. He's pretty much at the end of the line.

We have Gee, Stoner in the minors (probably should be up here), and I was hoping Mejia wasn't brought up from the get go so we could groom him for his proper role as a SP. But what's the point in telling me that you have 4-5 guys, who are green, have anything to do with this entire conversation?

PANatsFan, Minaya has struggled in the draft. But, his picks aren't bad, we just miss out for not overslotting. BUT he makes up for it well in the IFA. And no one can deny that.

It has alot to do with this conversation. Hes someone that eats innings and pitches fairly well throughout. If we can have a guy that gives up 2 runs through 7-8 innings, well hell Id take him. Thats Livan. Hes solid and can throw a limit of pitches up to 110+. With the arrival of the pitchers, we are going to have an arsenal in the starting rotation. Our bullpen is pretty weak and we will be adding Storen then as well. We might even convert some some starters into relievers to replace the ?'s. (Walker, Batista, Bruney (if hes even up here by that time :spaz:))

Livan can get us to June and serve manageable. He will have maybe a stinker a month but the other starts he will be the usual Livan, coasting through the innings. Its usually up to our offense at that point. He's been here in DC multiple times and we have seen Livan do his thing. The only reason why people give him crap is because he doesn't have anything that dazzles anyone.

Why do people think Tyler Walker is such a question mark? He has given up runs in 3 of his 9 appearances. In games where he pitches 2.0 innings or less, he has an ERA of 2.61. In games where he pitches in only one inning, he has an ERA of 0.00 (and he has finished an inning every game so far).

Agreed.  Maybe having him go longer than 2 innings is the problem. treating him as a long man when he might be the ROOGY/ 7th  inning pair for Burnett.

Back to Livo - Ph. Ph. - You kind of made the case for Livo in your post (alng with cmd's reply.   This is a staff that needs average quality starting pitching for a lot of innings.  We went into the year thinking we could get that or better out of Lannan and about that out of Marquis.  We probably penciled in 400 IP out of those guys.  Turns out, we are likely to get less than that.  Livo is an adequate space filler for that.

Hes a question mark because he will be solid one outing and then give up 2+ runs in another. Plus it seems we rarely put him in close situation games or games that we are ahead. Its hard when you have to over use guys like Clippard and Capps when you have other guys like Bruney, Batista and Walker but you don't know if they'll give you a good inning or not.

Niese, Pelfrey, and those dudes = so many comparable guys in the minors we had Matt Chico at AA. But you don't have SS on the way, plus Wang, Marquis, and Detwiler - 1 of which panning out makes the team a lot better.

It's as if you didn't even read the post you quoted.  Pretty convincing argument that pointed out the exact situations in which Walker gives up runs and the fact that he hasn't in 6 of 9 appearances.  Way to add nothing to the conversation.

Walker has been better than I thought.  He might even be a possibility for 7th inning role.   9 ks/1 walk per 9 is filthy.  Been unlucky with the longball.  NOrmalize his hr rate to his career levels and he's pitching just fine.

I read his post you ass. My point is, can he do that in consistently? 3 out of 5 of his scoreless innings were in close, losing, situation games. (3 runs or less) I never realized that in retrospect so I'll change my view a bit. I'm glad hes been able to do that but why can he do that when were winning? I see hes never been given the chance either but thats because I see him like Bruney. Bruney has been solid when we were down but sucked when were up. If Walker can have 3 or more consistent outings then I'd feel better about him. Id like to see Walker given more chances with the lead so I can change my opinion but for now I'm staying neutral.

For the record: All you did with this post is criticize me and repeat what houston said. so please, shut the freak up and stop thinking your the crap.

Walker also has a surprisingly bad LOB% which means the guys that get on against him are being allowed to score by the next reliever at well above the league average rate.  A couple of breaks and he's doing fine.

He's got a FIP of 4.55 and xFIP of 3.03 while his BABIP is well above league average.  The only stat he can control that isn't good is the HR/9 and that is likely just the result of SSS being this early in the season.
