I'd want him on the All-Star team if I were Bochy.

I'd be surprised if he wasn't voted in outright.  I think the fans want to see him in.

Fans don't vote for pitchers to the All Star game, only for position players.

Ok, then that makes sense as to why I couldn't find a ballot with pitchers on it then. I just thought I was dumb and looking at the wrong place.

He's definitely an All-Star. His #s are fantastic. W-L record is a terrible way to evaluate pitchers.

The guy is putting together perhaps his best stretch of pitching in a Nats uniform. Too bad his W-L does not reflect it.

I was at the game last night and it was a joy to watch this guy in action. You can tell he is still putting it together with his delivery. One of these days he is going to go out there and throw free and easy and get a no-no.

Gotta go nine innings.  Davey doesn't seem inclined to let him.

Giants aren't going to the World Series this year so he probably doesn't care.

It's about pitch counts. I agree with Davey on this.  If he go can go nine in less than 110-120 pitches, I'm good with it. Other than that, not so much. That's why you have a BP.

I want to see Stras at the ASG come out of the pen and throw some serious gas and show the country what a stud he is. I can see him hitting triple digits if he's pitching just one inning. Brad Penny's appearance in the ASG a few years comes to mind.

Reminds me of JZimm in Game 4 last year. That was a freaking dominant inning of relief.

Didn't Brad Penny throw his arm out that game? 2006 All-Star game, struck out the side in the 1st.

First half: 10-2 2.91 ERA
Second half: 6-7 6.25 ERA

So yeah, I'd rather avoid a kinda finicky SP of ours going out there and completely changing his routine to hunt radar guns for a night.

Of course, don't do anything stupid. And finicky? Please explain.

I think the country already knows "what a stud he is". He was one of the most hyped prospects in the last twenty years and the most famous player on the nats behind harper, its not like he is jzimm.

He's had TJ surgery, he spent multiple starts before that tugging at his shoulder and sleeves before every pitch. This season, he's been on the DL with an oblique strain that bothered him for several starts before he finally went on the DL. He already has a tough enough time in the first inning of a game he pitches (3.94 ERA this season with a 9/7 K/BB ratio in 16 innings; 3.39 career vs. 2.74 overall) whether he struggles to get loose or whatever it is. His body language has openly gotten sulky at various points if things outside of his control go wrong. He wilted in the heat at one point.

I love him, I just think he's (a) kind of a sensitive guy and (b) kind of an injury risk. I don't want him trying to overthrow in a situation like the all-star game where his emotions will be riding high. Those are the definition of high stress innings. Save that for the games that count.

He's allowed 8 ER in his last 8 starts over 51 innings, an ERA of 1.41.  Over that span he has gone 3-1 with 4 no decisions.  With a decent offense he is sitting at at least 8-6 and a shoe-in for the all star game.

He handled his inning in the ASG just fine last year.  Not like he's going to be traveling across the country either.  Miami to New York to DC.  He'll be fine, he'll likely pitch in the first half of the game if he gets picked.
