we might want to wait to see where he signs before we make any pronouncements.  So far all that's being reported is that he plans to meet with the Nationals.

I'm pretty certain he's going to re-sign here. But to me, true loyalty would be keeping the deal you had with the team that took care of you. Especially if you believe that the shutdown had a lot to do with his long term health (versus, say, a Matt Harvey).

Sounds more like true stupidity than true loyalty.  You could also argue that if the Nats were truly loyal to Strasburg they would have re-done his deal before the end of the season to bring him up to market value.

Player's union would never let him do that, Slate is trolling as usual.

He did keep the deal. He and the Nationals negotiated a player opt out.

Again, not everything you disagree with is trolling.

Seems silly to call it "loyalty" when you demand a re-negotiation. It's business. Fine, but don't confuse it with loyalty.

Never said I disagreed, and you are an established troll, so you + making outlandish suggestions = trolling until proven otherwise

Meeting with the Nats first thing to continue negotiations seems like about as "loyal" as one can expect in a market where players are pushed by their agents and the players union to drive up market values whenever possible.  I believe Stras wants to stay here and I think both sides will get it done, but suggesting he continue on with a contract that was clearly structured for exactly this kind of scenario while disregarding the impact it would have on the rest of the market comes off as disingenuous.

Seems silly to call it "loyalty" when you demand a re-negotiation. It's business. Fine, but don't confuse it with loyalty.

Sounds like you're just playing semantics games and have no real argument except over usage of the word "loyal".

If not plain trolling then you're certainly being very pedantic.

We all know very well that if a couple of posters had come out and called Strasburg disloyal for exercising his right to opt out that Slate would've strongly defended Strasburg just to have the contrarian stance.

Slate should pay the whole bill for WNFF in 2020 if he's really loyal :mg:

Where is PB69?
Hiding.  It's hard to be negative when the team just won the World Series.

With so many people convinced that Strasburg will end up here, there are also several people who say we cannot afford both Strasburg and Rendon.  I really have no idea if that's true, but if it is: does that mean if we sign Strasburg we just let Rendon walk?  More to the point, if we can sign Rendon, do we let Strasburg walk?  The latter sort of blows away the theory that he is certain to end up here.

Why is there an appreciation thread when he isn't gone? I don't like that.

We do this for some players. I believe the Harper one was called the Bryce Harper Compendium.

Maybe we can sign Strasburg, Rendon and Cole with some creative accounting.
