I give Strasburg a little credit for removing himself from games when he's not "on" and preventing himself from causing further damage to the team, but it's a little excessive at this point.

Stephen Strasburg won't play catch today. He's taking medication to help with back/shoulder. Tests came back clean, per MW.

My dad used to do that.   He was in his 70s at the time.

Strasburg (upper back) played without any issue, per MW. Whether he starts will hinge on his bullpen session though.

Played what though?  Cribbage?

WAR isn't much better than ERA, and in any case a 3 WAR isn't anything to brag about, we didn't lose 100 games for a third or fourth starter.

http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=all&stats=sta&lg=all&qual=500&type=8&season=2015&month=0&season1=2012&ind=0&team=0&rost=0&age=0&filter=&players=0

Since 2012 (aka Strasburg returning from TJ for a full season), Strasburg is 17th in  baseball among SP in WAR and ERA, 11th in FIP, 4th in K/9, 10th in K/BB.

He totally sucks! Basically a #4 starter. It's amazing to me how Strasburg gets crap on relentlessly but Tanner Roark is worshiped as an ace.

I don't believe much in WAR, but If WAR really correlates to wins, and specifically wins above replacement, and if replacement is  50 wins, then if you had a roster of 25 men each with 3 WAR, you'd win 120 games.

That would probably be true.

last year a pitcher worth 3 WAR would be tied for 42nd best pitcher (there were another 70 fielders with 3 or mor WAR) in the majors- it's good, but not special

Yes but if your entire rotation 1-5 were 3 and all 7 of your relievers, you'd really have a staff!

Has he yet to face a pitcher younger than him?
Doesn't mean a whole lot to me, as pitchers have shown to take quite a bit longer to develop unless they're relievers.

Again, this has always been the expectation for Bryce.

Bryce is Bryce - expectations are the province of others.

LOL. No doubt. Most guys love or hate a specific player on a game to game basis depending on how they performed that day.

As for our real #1 pitcher and only ace on the staff:

7 IP, 1 hit, 1 walk, 13 strikeouts.

Trade the bum now for a bullpen arm!!!

healthy Strasburg is one of the 3-4 best pitchers in baseball.  We just need to see more healthy Strasburg.

Looks great tonight but needs to do it over a longer period of time. Let's see how he starts next year.
