That is a solid signing. Haynesworth is NOT a 3-4 DE.

Sure he is.  He's big, he rushes the passer well, he a solid run stopper and he only plays 2 downs per drive.  Fits it well.

when they signed him, they ran a 4-3

and yet in that 4-3 scheme, he was not expected to be primarily a pass rusher. which is what he is.

I remember Haynesworth  nagging about it during the season, how the DC's scheme involved him rarely being able to go after the QB.

Scheme is not all about the formation, but also the player's role in the formation. Haynesworth is a pass rusher who is being paid not to rush the passer.

3-4 DE is all about run stopper...Haynesworth is talented/big enough to do it adequately, but we all know he doesn't have the mentality to do it (though he should). He wants to rush the passer when they'll be asking him to just take up blockers.

Pittsburgh and Baltimore are 3-4 schemes that routinely get 6-8 sacks from a DE.  It's all how the scheme is run.  There's no reason why Haynes(worth) can't be given pash rushing duties while Carter/Orakpo get the bulk of them from the OLB spots.

Definitely, and I think Haynesworth should suck it up and do what the defensive coaches tell him to do. I just question his mindset for playing the position, he doesn't seem like he's motivated enough to be a "stop the run first, rush the passer as a 2nd option behind Orakpo/Carter" guy.

ESPN is reporting that the Redskins are interested in TO.  Should be quite the locker room, maybe they can coax Lawrence Phillips out of retirement next?

why should he have not mindset- get the QB first has gotten him a $100 million contract?

Source: RB Parker to sign with Redskins

The Washington Redskins have reached agreement with free agent running back Willie Parker on a one-year deal with a maximum value of $3.1 million, a league source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

Parker has been told there will be an open competition for the Redskins' starting job, the source said.

The Redskins signed Larry Johnson last month, and Clinton Portis will be returning after concussion symptoms knocked him out of the last eight games of 2009.

Parker, a Pro Bowler in 2006 and 2007, averaged 1,337 yards in three seasons for the Steelers from 2005 to 2007.

He became Pittsburgh's backup last season in his fifth full year as the Steelers turned to Rashard Mendenhall as their featured running back.

Parker finished 2009 with 389 yards on 98 carries.

This team is cornering the market on washed-up running backs!  :?

How is this any different then the past 11 off seasons. Redskins corner the market on washed up players with stupid contracts.

Well, if this were 2006, we'd have a hell of a backfield

Willie had a great short stint with the Steelers, but he lost a step and isn't an everydown back.

Good luck to him in DC.

Willie's best years coincided with Alan Faneca, Marvel Smith (healthy), and Jeff Hartings being on the line.

I know, but I needed to cover my back just in case. :lmao:

Bruce's first draft will be very interesting. I'll hold judgement, but nothing he's done has impressed me too much.
