I think it's more that he's already resigned himself to the fact that Dunn is going to be the regular 1B, so he's moved on to people he hates who aren't locks.

See: Scott Olsen.

BP pitcher at this point in his career. 30 hits in 14.2 IP this Spring (2.05 WHIP). 1.72 WHIP last year in the Majors.

He has a 2.11 WHIP this spring.  Olsen is a 26 year old SP coming off an labrum injury (first injury of his career) who has been better than league average 2 of his 3 full seasons.  His numbers last year were almost identical to Wang who is 30 coming off of shoulder surgery (caused by coming back from a foot injury that screwed up his throwing motion) yet you seem sure that the older guy will return from the more dangerous injury.

Olsen has proven himself to be a solid MLB starter.  He's younger than a few of our current "prospects" like Mock, Martin and Chico.  He's put together two straight good starts.  A third, especially if he goes 6 and his stuff doesn't fade during that time, would show that he's ready to go.  If that's the case then he should be in the rotation.

Per Zuckerman, today's game has been at least postponed, likely cancelled.

Let's tone down the venemous rhetoric guys.  I have edited or removed a few posts.  We can all disagree without BEING disagreeable.  I'd hate to have to put anyone in the corner.

I'll throw in my two-cent - $ Ka-Ching. I do not see Mock as the 5th starter, he is to inconsistent in his pitching and needs to fine-tune and be more consistent in his pitching. I would rather see Olson or J.D. in the 5th starter position. Also I am a little worried about Marquis and what we have seen so far in his pitching; I know that it has just been Spring Training and pitchers work on various pitches, but, in my eyes his pitching has not been that great. I wonder if he will be a starter, six weeks from now?  :icon_question:
Additionally, I was very surprised what Mike Rizzo said about Adam Dunn and his playing at 1B, in the Washington Post on Friday.....I did not see that coming.  :o  Also very happy to see Desmond get the regular SS position for the season.   :icon_mrgreen:
Things are looking up - I could see us winning 75-81 games this year, and maybe even beating the Mets and coming in fourth in League standings at the end of the year; and also based on all the MLB 'Hot Stove" predictions, and our tentative line-ups and potential line-ups. I believe this is going to be a break-away year.
        Go Nationals................   :woop:

Wasn't someone here suggesting that?

Yesterday too. I like his bat, but I don't know if they can stash him in AAA as insurance for Who?

And thus ends the playing of salsa music for Wil Nieves.

Why would you want Nieves on the 25-man over Coste?

Edit: Okay, now I see why.  Damn, I had no idea Coste was THAT bad for Houston last year.  He was fine in Philly.

This seems like a "grass is greener" situation to me.  Coste is a little better defensively, Nieves is a little better offensively.

I'm not sure it really makes much difference one way or another.

Well Coste was a pretty decent offensive catcher in Philly, I just didn't know he fell off a cliff like that.

Although trying to hold onto Nieves for OFFENSE  seems kind of moot to me.

They're both gonna back up Pudge/Flores.  At worst it's another Bard/Nieves-esque platoon.  If you want to stash him in AAA it's probably not a bad org. depth signing, but he did have a big league contract, so I'm not even sure if he can go to AAA.

I was the one who brought up the idea of them putting a claim on him.  I'm smart!

If anything it puts some pressure on Nieves and gives the FO another option.  I like Coste's bat.
