I've also toyed with the idea of fantasy baseball so I'll pay a little more attention to the rest of the teams/players, but baseball already has me hunched over my computer too much in the summertime.

Are any of these suggestions good for beginners who don't necessarily want to obsess any more than they already do?

For the !, press and hold the alt key, type 33, and release the alt key.  The ASCII code for @ is 64.  Here is a full list:

I've played fantasy baseball (and football) for the past 5 years through Yahoo with a bunch of college friends. Our league is pretty competitive and I mangaed to win it last year. My only knock on Yahoo is that "stat tracker" aka live updates costs a one time fee of $10, no so bad for 162 games of baseball but pointless for football.

I also meant to join the WNFF league but didn't get to it in time.

I use the free variant at mlb.com, it was pretty easy to figger out, you can set up multiple teams and didn't need to manage it on a daily basis since you get your team set for a Sunday to Saturday series of games with a roster that's fixed (good for me since sometimes I pay attention and sometimes I don't)

sounds like there could be a few WNFF leagues.  I've only done very deep, AL roto leagues in the past, but would like to try a similar one for the NL.  deep leagues force you to know the benches and minors.

My main league is a 12 team NL-only auction league.  Roto 4x4 with 25 man rosters.
After the draft, hitting is hard to come by.  Pitchers can usually be found.

I really like the deep league, but finding that 5th OF or 2nd C is difficult.

Yeah, but we factor that into the cost of the league. Don't know if it is laziness or not by the commish, but it has worked well for years and has some nice features.

There's a way around that.  If you have Firefox, you can download the Addon Greasemonkey https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/748.  Then download this script http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/5143 for it and you've got free stats.

My main league is on ESPN.  It gives me no problems so I like it.  Usually end up with a few pick up leagues on Yahoo though, so it's nice to get the live stats.

that is exactly like my AL league, except by going 12 teams deep in the AL, you have to scramble even harder. I've heard of 13 team NL leagues.

We also throw in a 2 round farm draft.  You are allowed to keep 3 farm boys up until they lose rookies eligibility.  Last year, my "farm" was Andrus, G Beckham, and Reimold, and the year before I had Ellsbury at the start of the year.  Farm boys get assigned $10 when activated.  I would love to this in an NL league because the NL has had so many of the best prospects in recent years.

NL is almost easier becuase so many guys at least get to pinch hit- I've had al only leagues where a couple of positions were just straight 0s most games.

We switched from CBS to ESPN two years ago, the league software crashed about a week after the season started, wiping out all stats/transactions/etc across all leagues it was a major F-up on their part, apparently they didn't realize the software couldn't scale.  They ended up refunding everyone's money, and giving out a free pass to the football league.  After that experience we went back to CBS and haven't looked back.

The WNFF league played ESPN last season, there was no money required.
