wow, i was confusing adam kennedy with david eckstein this whole time. he did much better than i thought he did last year.

 That would have been horrible. I'd be ranting and raving like the rent-a-posters.

Watching Hot Stove on MLB Network  and they were taking Adam Kennedy for a while.  Harold Reynnolds was saying that after that ALCS where he went HR crazy in 2002, he really tried to become a power hitter and it didn't work and it took him a couple of years to really get out of that mindset.  He was said that last year he finally got back to what got him to the bigs in the first place, a line drive, gap hitter that got on base and did the little things and just played again and his game came back a bit.  I'm curious to see what happens when Eckstein can get with him in spring training.  Hopefully he can keep on that path and keep playing well.

Also said we're starting pitcher deficient, which we already knew.

are these the same people that said gold gloves don't matter when david wright was winning them over zimmerman?

Yeah, MLB talked about the Nats for like 7 minutes. They liked all the signings, they made me question whether Hudson is healthy at all, and they trashed our starters. They forgot Stammen exists.

Hazel Mae is pretty cute, and a good host, too.

Kennedy will have a better year than Hudson. Miiiindfact.

That would be stupid. He is NOT an outfielder. Shortstop is his position.

I think this will sort itself out in ST. One of Guzman/Desmond will separate themselves from the other.

http://voices.washingtonpost.com/nationalsjournal/2010/02/riggleman_on_kennedy_signing.html

Riggleman still thinking of using Desmond in the outfield :panic:
But it's not like they're looking to turn him into an outfielder.  If he's one of the 25 best players in ST, I think Riggleman wants him on the roster and to get him at least semi-regular at bats, he may have to find some of them in the outfield.  There's nothing wrong with him being versatile.

one already has; there is no way Guzman doesn't get showcased for a trade, and if he has a shot at being a type a, they will probably make sure he gets them

The Nats would be stupid to offer arbitration to Guzman if he is a type A. He could get close to $10 Million in arbitration.

Right.   If anything, they are looking for a way to justify keeping him on the 25 man roster and in the bigs.

I was :panic: over the defensive errors that possibility will lead to.

what if he actually turns out to be a really good outfielder?  He's got the athleticism to do it.  But I don't think it'll be a huge issue in the, what, 30-40 inning's he'll actually get in the OF.  It's not like it's going to be the bulk of his playing time, if it happens at all.

If he keeps hitting like he did last season, I still think he will end up being an outfielder anyways. He's just never been a good pro shortstop. No improvement at all through 6 seasons.

He REALLY needs to work on his MI defense.  This is stupid beyond words.

Yep that's the other side of the coin.

A great hitting SS is a decent hitting OF and his defense out there is atrocious.

and his bat is worth more at MI then as a corner outfielder

Exactly.  He's not as bad at SS as some people think he is (*cough*ronnynat*cough*), but he just needs a lot of refining.

If anyone should be converted to corner outfield, it's Derek Norris.

Yeah, Derek Norris should be an OF more than anyone in our farm system (regarding position switch).

From the pictures I've seen of Norris, he looks kinda chubby. I don't see how he would fit in the OF. He could become the next Adam Dunn in the OF.

He's not *that* chubby.  He's pretty awfully behind the plate defensively, but his one strong suit is that he has an absolute cannon for an arm.  It'd make sense to at least try him at RF.

Norris is a catcher. Annoys the hell out of me that anyone would try to move him and destroy his value. Willingham learned how to catch after he started pro ball, Norris will figure it out.
