Just freaking great. :?

Btw, I'm late in saying this, but:
Fantastic, thanks.

The "S" on the caps looks strangely familiar . . .
They look like the Cornell logo.

Damn this sucks.  That means 4 of the top 30 prospects (Morris, Norris, Espinosa, Jamie) are already on the DL, in addition to Justin Maxwell on bereavement for the birth of his daughter.

They really need to start calling it family leave.

What if you don't like kids?

Who cares. Death of an Uncle,Grandpa etc... are all family leave. Maxwell should go on bereavement because his bat died.

I know, it's just weird to hear that somebody is on the bereavement list because their wife is having a kid.

In good new, Kobernus is 2/4 tonight and off to a 5/10 start in Low A.

The Suns announcer has mentioned Kobernus missing some easy balls defensively through the gaps and he has dropped a few throws at second.  He is probably just getting back up to speed though.

Destin Hood has been playing well in right field tonight and Eury Perez continues to cover large areas of the outfield, even throwing out a runner at home.  Nieto also threw out a runner in what sounded like a perfect throw to 2B.

He's still on the DL with Potomac last I heard.

I guess Eury Perez is our future CF/leadoff hitter at this point. Dude knows how to get on base.

Eury Perez is looking like he'll be our future CF/leadoff hitter. Dude knows how to get on base.

I wouldn't be surprised if he got sent back down to Vermont once short season started up.  Hagerstown already has two center fielders in Marcus Jones and JR Higley (on DL right now) who are more prepared for Single A.  Perez has been mostly over-matched against the pitching at his current level.  Today he was 0 for 4, but did reach first on an error.  He has been pretty good about stealing, but was also caught for the first time today.

I like Perez for the future as well, but he seems like a guy that they just wanted to get at-bats for until the other teams started up.  A lot can happen before for June though.

I think they'd send JP Ramirez down before Perez...Perez has a higher cieling than anyone in the outfield other than Hood so I think he'll stick.

Yeah but on the same page he is the youngest of the group and hasn't played above GCL until this year.  That means he still probably hasn't learned the language and he has never played on a team that lives with a host family and has travel games so far away (DSL travels only around the Dominican and GCL only around a small area of Florida).  That is a lot of external stress to put on a kid that young and I wouldn't be surprised if it started manifesting itself in his game.

We will see what happens, but I also wouldn't be surprised to see BOTH Ramirez and Perez sent to short season if they struggle.

I see where you're coming from, hopefully Perez can handle the external issues I think F. Soriano and S. Leon being there with him will help with the adjustment.

I think the movie 'Sugar' does a good job showing you how tough it is for a young kid to adjust to baseball and America the first time they are away from home!

I ranked that as my second-favorite movie of 2009 in the school newspaper.

Quote
2. Sugar

The most underappreciated movie of the year, Sugar begins as a baseball movie and ends up being something much more important. It tells the story of Miguel "Sugar" Santos, a Dominican baseball player who is drafted by a major league team and heads to the United States to prove his worth. Despite the appearance of several ballgames in the movie, Sugar is more about the immigrant experience, and ultimately about chasing the American dream. It's heartwarming and surprising, and it defies all the stereotypes of sports movies.

Strengths: Vivid, realistic, humorous and original, with great plot turns and a beautiful ending. Algenis Perez Soto, who is not an actor at all but a real Dominican baseball player, turns in a wonderful performance as Sugar Santos.

Weaknesses: For the DVD release, the creators censored the movie in an attempt to reduce the rating from R to PG-13. Why would anybody want to lower the rating on a DVD? At any rate, I want to see Sugar again but will wait until they sell the original release. In theaters, the movie was just about perfect.

Link

Maybe it's blasphemy, but that is probably my favorite baseball movie ever.

PS. There is a cameo by the film's "baseball consultant," Jose Rijo

Syracuse defeats Buffalo 4-3 to improve to 5-1 on the season.

J.D. Martin picked up his first win and second straight quality start (6.2 IP 7 H 3 ER 1 BB 3 K) and 3B Chase Lambin carried the load offensively as he racked up 4 hits and 3 RBIs.

If Olsen fails or one of the starters gets injured, I hope Martin gets a chance. I think the team should move him to the bullpen after the season. He can be effective than Bergmann in that role.
