If the Diamondbacks sign Kelly Johnson, would we be interested in trading for Augie Ojeda? The guy's only ever been a backup and has no bat to speak of, but he plays 2B and SS pretty well defensively, as far as I know (1.000 fielding % at 2B in 2009, over 30+ games). Might be the super defender we want to complement Dunn and Desmond/Guzman, but who knows if he could be decent full-time. The price would be low if Johnson joins Arizona - Ojeda would essentially be out of a job...

This is kinda random, but I didn't really know where to put it. Has anyone else noticed that mlb.com articles and other major baseball news outlets have started using UZR, FIP, and WAR? I've particularly noticed it on mlb.com, but I've seen it on a few others. Like in a Gold Glove article a month back, I noticed they said that Gutierrez had the highest UZR/150 but didn't get a gold glove. I've seen a few more, especially with WAR.

Bobby Howry signed with Arizona for a year at $2m.

Are we set with Bruney and Clippard as the RH set up / middle guys and Burnett / Guardado as the primary lefties getting to Capps? Bergie as the MR / low leverage long man, and X as the 12th man on the staff? Seems weird to have so many roles pretty much settled. I guess we have our option As for 6 bullpen roles, and figure to scoop up a few left overs just before spring training on minor league contracts to hold in Pawtucket in case any of the option As get hurt or go Hanrahan on us at the start of the year.

What about Balester? Lots of bullpen talk with him factoring in.

Bruney still wants to be the closer.

FIP is a stupid stat IMO, since most of the data is disregarded. My new favorite stat is wOBA.

xFIP is a better predictor of pitching skill than either ERA, FIP, or tRA, according to THT.
