That's kind of my whole point. You move Detwiler because the 1st round pick label makes some GM's giddy and you keep Meyers who has actually put up better minor league numbers at a similar age.

Meyers is 6' 6" and throws a heavy low 90s sinker and nice slider.

He was whip-thin in comparison when I saw him play a couple years ago.

Capps will have a great chance of being our closer.

With Cubs, he will be squarely behind Marmol who has already been anointed closer.

He has reliever buddies on the Cubs too (Gorzelanny and Grabow) who are trying to convince him to go there.

Except that when he's had the chance to be a closer he's hasn't done well. He's excelled in the set-up role. I think he could close if he went to Chicago too.

Linty - what's the deal with Choo and his military service? Is he out of his commitment?

I am not sure that deal gets Choo. He is an affordable near all star level OF.

Still no answer yet (that I know of). He's hoping he can work out some sort of deal, but I heard he'd forgo his Korean citizenship to get out of it, if it comes to it.

From what I understand, compulsory South Korean military service is as fun as it sounds. Good luck to him.

Right, especially since we place significant forces at risk there, and depend on a strong So. Korean military presence to deter northern aggression.

So as we know Capps is deciding between Nats and Cubs and the decision should come tonight. Ken Rosenthal likes the Nats chances (according to his latest report on foxsports.com).

This is turning into a nice offseason for us, imo.

I think "nice" is the appropriate adjective. It's not a knock-your-socks-off off-season, but considering where the Nats are in the pecking order of most players' desirable locations we've done o.k.

It would be nice to make some really significant improvements but this off-season provided a fairly barren free-agent market and we really didn't have enough to be in the Halladay/Lee sweepstakes anyway.

I'd still love to see the MI situation addressed and I'd love to get Ben Sheets.

Still, passable thus far.

I'm not going to disagree, I just thought it was interesting. I think if we do go after Hudson, that would also mean something will happen with Guz too. I don't see them both being on the roster.
