Uggla as ROY? That's a joke - he's a fine player, but no where near the clutch of Zimmerman and defensively, he's not even close to Zim - 3rd is 100 % more difficult to field then 2nd - Uggla ... gimme a break ...

I hate when people say Ugly over Zim, I hate it  :x

Ummmm....not really.  I play both fairly regularly and 2nd base has far more responsibility than does 3rd.

But I do agree that Zimm is a better defensive player than Uggla....

Appears as if Cain is very worried about speedy kearns over on 1B.

Anybody who knows anything about Baseball knows that 3B is the hardest position to field. Ball comes at you quicker than any other spot on the field, which means less time to react.

It's even worse because he was repeatedly throwing to first base.  It wasn't like it was a surprise!

That is one of worst scenarios for a pickoff you'll ever see!

And I'm telling you as a person who has played both positions already this year (IN BASEBALL - NOT SOFTBALL) that 2nd is the much more difficult position.  I was hit in the face with one-hopper off the dirt at 3B last year and I finished the game.

Yes, the ball comes at you faster and you need to have quick reactions and a strong arm.  But second is a far more difficult position to play with all of the cutoff, coverage and double-play responsibilities.

Do you even play?  If you do, have you played 2nd or SS?

EDIT:

And further "the hardest position on field" is CATCHER.  Anyone who actually plays KNOWS that.

it depends what your definition of hard is.  you dont need range to play 3b. just reflexes. its a different skill set. i just wouldnt compare them. i would say that in most cases you could put a good 2b or SS at 3b, but not necessarily a 3b at SS or 2b.  I dont like playing second it has a lot of awkward throws

"Fundamentaless" = good word.  We might be the Wild Card leader right now, if you eliminated all our dumb base running and ill advised steal attempts.  Livan starts the 7th with 82 pitches.

to back up your point, Zimmerman played a game at SS last year and had two errors I think.

Really? What major league team do you play for? Third is not called the "hot corner" for nothing - much more difficult to pick up the ball from third than 2nd - yes, there's more "responsibility" at second, cut off, daylight, etc., but it's a much easier position to field.

I think you DO need a break, Zimmerman is not even close to a shoe in for ROY. he's in a race with some damn good rookies. 2006 is gonna be remembered as one of the best years for rookie players in decades. You must be wearing blinders to not see there are other's who can win ROY over Zimmerman. Uggla and Barfield are in the race for the title, just as much as RZ is. Right now, Zimmerman is just one of three possible winners for ROY in the National League.

Ok, my theory gets tested again.  Matt Cain was the third out!

Please, Robert Fick, take some pitches.  Make him have to fight through just being at bat and the heat and make him throw strikes!

You don't have to play in the majors, anything beyond little-league will do.

Clearly you have not played either position.  Try having a 240 lb. guy barreling down on you at second base and trying to turn a double play on a ground ball to third.  Then tell me what's tough.

Zim - more RBI's than any rookie, more intentional walks than any rookie, more hits with runners in scoring position than any player in the league, three walk off wins, and counting, and plays a brilliant defensive third base - I agree that there are a crop of excellent young rookies out there - but IMO Zim is just doing it better ... he's the most clutch rookie I've ever seen.

Should we pull Livan here for a hitter?

I was a third basemen in tee-ball lol, I had to stop playing though because I broke my arm in the year where they make the transition  to real pitching, and I couldn't get the hang of it ever since  :(

I never said third was the harder, it's harder than 2nd - catcher is by far the most arduous ... no question!

We don't really need a "hitter" here.  It's late in the game on a hot day.

Cain's stuff ain't that good.
